  • Vienna Instruments Pro announced

    Preview

We’re proud to present you with a few highlights of the next generation of our Vienna Instruments Player Software. Slated for release this summer, the new Vienna Instruments PRO player will load all of your existing and future Vienna Instruments sample collections. While the current Vienna Instrument Player will still be included as free software with any Vienna Instruments Collection, Vienna Instruments PRO will be available for download at a moderate price.
Vienna Instruments PRO will offer a host of new features that will not only make your creative work easier, but also add human behavior to your music.
Note for readers who are unfamiliar with Vienna Instruments:
Articulations (= Patches) are being loaded into Cells of a Matrix. You can switch articulations by accessing Cells of the Matrix, using one controller for horizontal and another one for vertical movements.

    Enhanced Matrix Functions

    • Up to 127 assignable Matrices, switchable via keyswitches, controllers or program changes.
    • Volume settings for each Matrix Slot.
    • 4 Stereo outputs assignable for each Matrix Slot, providing enhanced mixing options when using different articulations on one instrument channel, e.g., you may route pizzicatos to a separate output than arco patches.

    • Individual EQ graph for each Matrix Slot, enabling unique EQ settings per articulation (e.g., regular vs. muted, arco vs. pizzicato).

    • Assignable tuning scales for each Matrix Slot, enabling on-the-fly switching between various tuning scales of a given instrument, as well as assigning perfect tuning to each key in real-time.

New Controller Types for Articulation Switching

    • Key Velocity. When one controller axis is set to keyswitches, the other axis can be controlled by “key velocity”. Now you can control two parameters at once by hitting a single keyswitch with varying intensities. (The velocity response of the current instrument is not affected.)
    • Interval Map. Detects the direction of your interval (up or down) and selects dedicated articulations.
    • Sequence Map. Automatically steps through different articulations on one axis without the need to switch manually.

    Patch Rack Features

    • Each Cell of a Matrix provides a rack of 8 slots that can be filled with 8 different Patches (articulations).
    • Patch Rack Mixer allows you to set volume and panning for each Patch individually.

    • Auto Voicing automatically triggers patches depending on monophonic or polyphonic playing. Example: Flute 1 loaded into first slot, Flute 2 loaded into second slot – when you play monophonic melodies, only Flute 1 is triggered, performing two voices automatically splits between Flute 1 and Flute 2.

    Enhanced Filter Controls

    • Adjustable filter threshold and frequency range enables linking expression and filter sliders to a single controller for optimal expression control.

    Patch Control Features

    • Polyphonic Legato (two voices) setup controls.

    • Editable velocity curves.

    • Repetition Selection enables you to switch on and off certain parts of Repetition Performances.
    • Pitch Curve Presets offer multiple tone pitch curves for individual Patches. Stacked Patches will follow different curves for authentic, discrete behavior. Performing chords on a single Patch will simultaneously trigger different pitch curves for all played notes.
    • Adjustable Note-on Delay for each Patch. Stacked Patches may be delayed individually for authentic, human behavior. Notes of chords played with a single Patch can be delayed individually.
    • Intensity of delay and pitch curve can be controlled by a single MIDI controller. This one slider allows you to adjust the level of performance accuracy by the virtual musicians in real-time.
      Example:
Pitch curve and delay setting for 1st note

Pitch curve and delay setting for 2nd note

Pitch curve and delay setting for 3rd note

    Browser Features

    • Advanced Search Option

    Keyboard Display

    • Display of 128 keys
    • Indication of all keyswitches (Matrix, Cell, A/B)

    Time Stretching

    • High quality time compression and expansion algorithm enables altering the duration of samples within a Patch. Especially useful for phrase samples such as runs and trills.

All features and images subject to change.

PLAY and VE Pro are two totally separate beasts. It would make more sense to compare PLAY with Kontakt. In that case PLAY comes last by a long way.

Daryl, this is the VI Pro (as in Vienna Instrument) different from VE Pro. It's their player.

Sorry I mis-read. So the answer should have been nobody knows except the developers. However as Vi has been very stable and un-problematic for almost everyone I've even spoken to and even on the forum, I can't imagine that VI Pro will be any different. PLAY on the other hand...

As far as features are concerned, I haven't looked at either in great detail, because I'm a great believer in "if it's not yet released, it doesn't exist". IMO there is no point in making plans about new products when they might turn out to be a load of pants.....

I think VSL have proven themselves in the past to be able to dot the i's on their respective streaming / hosting architectures , I'm with Daryl, I doubt they would deviate too far from what they have already established with VI/VE.

PLAY is just a constant moving target , even after all this time, and after the recent shenanigans from the EW employees at G.S , its obvious they still haven't dotted the i's.
