Poco Mk2 pci refurbished for 289€ incl german vat. Certainly fine if one just needs more dsp but no plugs and is fine with pci. This offer has been there for a while now, I wonder how interested into pocos the world is at all nowadays...

Yes, I ask myself the same thing. Processing power has come a very long way in 5 years. In 2004, the mac of the year was a dual core. Now we're up to 8. Does anyone really need external dsp like this now?

In my opinion the main point for Poco are the reverbs. The additional ones, VSS, DVR and Nonlin (or how they're called) are outstanding to me. I never use any of the basic plugs apart from the ampsim.
Michael
there are no native verbs like VSS and DVR....
Ihave no poco or free slots...but i have a lexicon 224xl that does the job admirably! i just have to record the verb all the time :)
if it was a good deal and I had a way to integrate it i would buy a poco just to be able to run VSS3 and DVR...

I bought my Poco just for the reverb, but I bought a UAD just for the Plate 140 and I discovered a very good set of plugins that you can't find in native.
In other hand I have a quadcore machine, but if you work at 96kHz, the reverbs spend a lot of CPU (IR1 from Waves for example).

Right, I understand now. I didn't realise the reverbs on it were so good as I've never heard one.

The Powercore Reverbs are the same but older version of the TC hardware units, such as the TC System 6000 and Reverb4000.
Very good reverbs, but a taste question.

Without x64 drivers and hardly any 5.1 compatible plugs it's a no go here..
Both cards are on the shelf. Too bad

With the very close release of Windows 7 and Snow Leopard, I think that both brands are working in a x64 drivers.
Unfortunately 5.1 isn't a big problem for music :icon_no:

Powercore does not work in either XP64 or Vista64, they are way behind the rest and have obviously problems getting good drivers out (even Vista32..)

Ok, let's not go there :icon_rolleyes: .. In my music 5.1 is very important, and besides the potential of using Powercore in film post production is considerable.

I love my Powercore FW. I know some people have problems but mine works well. Does anybody know if Jbridge works with the powercore plugins so that you could use them in a 64bit windows machine?
Rob
Hey Rob, i think the problem is more that there isn't a 64bit driver for the card itself...

I originally got my first Poco to use the TC surround reverb - which they abandoned some years ago... This was back in PIII times, and it was the only way to get a halfway usable surround reverb going without hiring a Lexicon. I assume that there are very limited resources at TC, otherwise I can't wrap my head around their very turtleish development - both drivers as well as plugins.

Doh! Yes of course, thanks Sam. It's been a long week what with work and trying to reason with Fredo :) It is strange that TC can't seem to get a 64 bit driver together. Hopefully soon but who knows?

Everyone should try the Acousticas impulses. THrow on some modulation to taste and it gets pretty close to hardware.
Blind A/b with impulse and real thing. http://www.acousticas.net/World/Videos/Acousticas/Lexicon480/L480BT.mov

Is the modulation in the plug or are you doing something yourself to the reverb return?

You can put on your own modulation plug to the return. Check out Reverberate from LiquidSonics. A impulse reverb with built in modulation/chorusing. Only 50 bucks.
