View Full Version : Black Magic with DPC...!

I've just had to re-enable my network in order to use my new Lemur, and was getting very bad performance, with ASIO spikes all over the place. I partly solved this by installing a PCI Network card. I'm not very happy about losing a slot, but needs must.
However, the performance was still not as good as before, so I did a little bit of digging around. It turns out that the biggest culprit is actually the Intensity card that I installed to workaround Nuendo's crap video handling........!
As soon as I disabled this, the DPC went down to virtually nothing. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. The good news is that there is an update (4th April, I think). I installed this, together with the firmware update, and whilst not as good as without, the performance is now comparable to what it was previously. I'm a happy bunny.
So to those of you with Intensity cards running the update may improve your performance at low(ish) latency.
BTW the lemur is great, although it has made me re-think my template, which is now around 20GB. :>(

Well, I'm always happy to thank Vin. If it is not deserved now, I'm sure that it will be at some point. :kissbutt:

I wouldn't exactly say "fixed". It is a big improvement, and as it is no longer tipping me over the edge, I'm relatively happy. However, their driver still performs worse than all the audio devices I have (and now Network Card), so they shouldn't feel too smug.

Hey Daryl, Sam,
I don't know if I am directly responsible for the decreased lower DPC with the Intensity cards, I would like to think so.. :D
I definately did bring it to their attention and placed a bomb firmly under the tech guys arse after he dismissed it as a non event because - " it didn't cause any quantifiable performance issue importing and playing back video on his test rig , therefore it was not regarded as a problem as far as they were concerned "
I reminded him that although it may not be an issue in regards to video, it definately is an issue in regards to low latency performance on DAW's , so he should reconsider addressing it..
BTW: I also made a note that the network card on those Dual Quads significantly raised the DPC as well back in those halcyon days back on the DAWbench forum when you and I were thrashing these Dual Quads around for the first time , so in combination it was definitely an issue to be on top of.
Probably lost in the mix..
Good to know that the non issue on the Intensity has been greatly improved on their latest update tho, I'll make a note of that next time I am chatting to their tech support.. .. :eusa_whistle:

I'll send them an email tomorrow telling them that whilst their driver is not yet good enough to be considered professional, it is a big improvement over their previous crap driver. :rotfl:
