View Full Version : Problems with new i7 DAW - crackling even at higher latencies 512 and above

Hi guys,
This is my first post and Id need some help regarding performance of my new i7. I will try to be more detailed as possible. My problem is latency/DMA value… crackles is all around my project when DMA set to 512 samples/11ms (in/out). Over than that, no crackles issues.

Ok, that’s my hardware:
Asus P6T SE / Intel core i7 920 - 2,66hz (no OC) HT on / 4gb ram (2x2) Kingston DDR3 - 1333mhz / ATI Powercolor 4870 – 1gb / M-audio Audiophile 2496 pci / DVDRW Pioneer 216dbk sata / 2x 500gb Seagate Barracuda (7200.12) 16mb buffer Sata II / audio monitor M-Audio Studiophile AV40 / Samsung 2033SN - 20”

Basically that’s my software:
Vista Home Basic 32 bit / Cubase SX3 / Delta Asio (last update)

My project (24 bit / 48khz):
It has around 20 tracks (3 midis / 17 audio tracks) all loaded with eq 7 bands, most of all with some dynamic plugins. Also are loaded VST’s Audiobass realism, Vanguard, Z3ta, sidechain.

Is there anything missing? Was it supposed to be capable to support lower latency without crackle? Any help would be highly appreciated!!

tks

ok, vinark, probably I'm not running bios last version even if my mobo was released on 05/02/09.
I will check this out.

IMO it's either a Vista issue, or it's a driver issue with your soundcard.

I havge an i7 system and it rocks, down to 64 samples...maybe even 32 now that Tascam has updated the driver. Of course, I have a lot more RAM and I'm running xp64 and Vista 64 Ultimate, but the results should not be atypical.

Hi D,
that's exactly what I thought. I know my sound card isn't that good but 768 is too much for i7!!

Maybe someone that is using vista 32 bit with i7 could give me some clue.

The Delta drive is ok. It was downloaded directly from the specific link for this sound card in m-audio website.

Btw, bios updated to last version and no changes noticed so far.

Run this tool
http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

It usually (not always) shows high DPC latency when there are such problems as you are having.

Turn off drivers (in device manager) one by one, until the DPC latency drops to at least below 50uS.

A commom problem is if you run the stupid little mobo tool that comes with your Mobo.
The asus probe etc. etc. The one that can overclock.
They steal everything....

If the dpc latency is too high (anything over about roughly 100 should be suspicious, mine is down to below 40 if I remember right), then you might check if you got any additional 'tweaking' programs installed. My dpc latency was ruined before by an overclocking tool. I'd get rid of anything like that, temperature monitoring etc. I don't remember the exact numbers right now, but with the tool the latency was somewhere in the region of several thousands.

Michael

PS.: oops, didn't read the above post entirely, guess I'm pretty much sying the same...

tks for all suggestion but seems that there is something really f** in my system.
i tried to disable "asus control service", "asus turbo V", "asus 6 engine" and also ethernet card, other audio cards (mobo), ie1394 (firewire) controller, scsi device but pops and crackle are still coming up during project playback with 512 samples set.
DPC latency starts with 30 - 40us, during cubase launching it goes to 1000 and then i have max over than 2000us (red)... no more ideas. all drivers are updated.
