Well Hell has frozen over then..
I clearly remember P.G stating he would never port Wavelab to OSX..
Then again, who says its actually P.G's "Wavelab" , it may well be a new application that Steinberg are going to be branding as such..
I am betting on the latter.
BTW: The announcement simply states they are working on it, I wouldn't be holding my breath for anything in the short term.. :-)

I hate WaveLab anyway. It's layed out all fucked up like. It has a lot of cool features but it just needs a gui overhaul.

Steinberg needs an Overhaul.
Nuendo 5 in 2010, 3rd 4th quarter if not cancelled altogether.

Really, a GUI overhaul ?
I actually like the GUI, a little less "Pastel" than Cubendo.. :eusa_whistle:
They may need to polish it a little for iFruit brigade tho, some animated pop ups perhaps ..

Personally, iThink this iDea is way too late... very little fanfare so far.
iLike WavelabOne, but if it's going to be a ported clone by Steiny, they might as well call it...
iDunno :D

I suspect it may be included or integrated with N5 and thus needs to be OSX compatible.

I think that Steinbergs announcement to port wavelab over to OSX is a good thing. Why?
- The lack of similar tools on OSX (Peak pro, sound track pro...nah..)
- The future possibility of including/merging some of it's technology into Nuendo/Cubase line.
- A recoding can be a good thing; I think the code basis of Wavelab is getting old.
- Waste of resources? Well blame Sequel and alike.. Wavelab is a semi-Steinberg product, and IMO their better piece of software..
Just my 2 cents.

It's actually great that they're finally doing it, but they've cost themselves a ton of money from Mac-heads finding other alternatives over the years.
In the two weeks this news has been out, enthusiasm has been surprisingly limited.

Well I may not be making any noise about it. But I will certainly buy it.

The forever beachball? :willy_nilly:
Well, not with PG I guess. But what a hoot if that popped up as a gag.
Forgive me if that isn't the latest on a Mac. I don't have a Mac and I've only worked on and with one once. It wasn't bad. It was a very different way of thinking.

Without using the manual it can sometimes be weird finding something and even getting it implemented, and sometimes by even using the manual. I'll surely agree that the layout is very off from a "normal" kind of layout.
Personally, I absolutely love what WaveLab is capable of.

Exactly John. I didn't mean the gui as far as the "look" of it, even though it's kind of bland. I was talking about the navigation and usability of it. I could edit audio a lot faster in Peak even though functionality is a lot better in Wavelab. And Wavelab's way of exporting audio is absolutely sickening.

I can relate to that. Typically for a "one man show" application. I suspect Philippe need to involve other coders for this transition. Let's hope something good comes out of it in this respect.

Ya, they can borrow Dave Nicholson for the GUI look, and Philippe can finally make Nuendo import a CD!

He..he..
Good idea!
I just saw this in an interview with Andy Bolleshon on Steini's site
"What features of Nuendo and WaveLab do you especially like? And do you have any ideas that would further improve the workflow?
As I already said, the workflow in Nuendo and WaveLab works pretty well for us. However, we would welcome a single program that fuses all the features we use. The playback, recording and routing capabilities in Nuendo are brilliant. For our purposes WaveLab seems to lag behind. And WaveLab’s plug-in management of regions in an audio montage could also be made easier to handle."
I wonder if they are publishing this sort of thing as dropping hints?

I'd love it if they merged Wavelab into Nuendo. For one thing, I bought two copies of Wavelab, then immediately lost the "unlock code" or whatever it is, from one of them. Now I only have a single copy anyway. Of course I hadn't registered it.

If they implemented WLs batch processing power (but WAY more intuitively laid out) into Nuendo... that would be HUGE.
That's all I really use WL for anyways.
WL could stand to learn a lot about intuitive interfaces.... here's to hoping.
Cheers,

Ironically, this is in contrast to Steinberg's other software, so it is reasonable to believe that things will happen here..
But along with a new workflow, possible Steiny side effects might be: bugs, denial and arrogance. Maybe it is me but PG seems to be on a different level than the other "real" Steiners.. He even shows up in the user forum from time to time

Hello,
the WaveLab GUI will be renovated, but the overall style won't be totally different. Existing customers will be familiar with it immediately and will enjoy a faster work than ever before through a new window management.
Thanks,
Timo

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to this release..

I use a Mac program called DSP Quattro, it is fantastic for dealing with stereo files, the only thing I don't like is the lack of VST plug-in support. It is incredibly flexible in it's routing and self recording abilites, and can also be used as a virtual instrument host.

Me too, is a good program with a good potential, the best two track editor that I found for OSX, but by the moment far from Wavelab or Soundforge.
Very nice CD mastering program too (I want a DDP option)
Cheers
