View Full Version : Kontakt 3.5 64-bit: Still can't access more than 4 GB in Cubase - SOLVED

Any ideas here? Using (obviously) the 64-bit version of Cubase 5, with K3.5, and I get a crash as soon as I go over 4GB RAM usage. Oddly enough, 4GB was the max I could get with K2/3 32-bit within Cubase5 32-bit.

Anyone have any thoughts here? Can't call tech support - it is not supported.

Thanks in advance.

That sucks. Seems like we are in forever limbo with this 64 bit transition.

I wonder if it would work in Windows 7?

I'm thinking end of the year for Kontakt 3.5 working anywhere near right. I mean, really, all the big noise about it's 64bit memory addressing, and it crashes Cubase 5 on Vista Ult x64 out of the gate?

If my initial impression of Windows 7 bears out, it is going to be the go-to o/s. Stable and fast. Sure, the foot print is bigger, but it is still very nimble and very sure footed.

Of course, once the beta is through and the real one comes out, they'll drop all the driver support they had in the beta, and we're screwed again!!!!!!!

If you really want to fix this, then wait a month and get Vienna Ensemble Pro.

Which will work with EWQL instruments? If so, then I may look into that. If not, then how is it a fix?

It should work with all VSTi that are properly coded according to the VST spec.

So it comes out next month then? Do you know if you will be able to control which computer you load a vsti on? Like the way fxteleport handles it?

Hmmmm - something funky going on.

After Cubase crashed, I was unable to get more than TWO GB RAM usage. I uninstalled K3, trashed the C5 prefs, and then did a system restore. Now, I can access all the RAM I want. Here is the weird thing: the crash before happened when loading a Kontakt EWQL Choir patch. With those intr, on K2 and C4/5 32, I can't get up to the usual 4 GB - Cubase crashes at around 3.66 GB. But it's only those. There has to be some correlation, but I don't get what that would be.

Ok, got it.

It works now after the 2nd install - apparently something happend with the installer the 1st time around. Now, I have two folders in my NI\K3 folder: VSTPlugins 64 bit, and VSTPlugins. VSTPlugins 64 bit was not there the 1st time around; the only folder that was there was the latter. And seeing as tho NI has not done what EW does, which is differentiate between the 32-bit plug and the 64-bit plug, I had no idea that Kontakt 3.dll was 32-bit. So, I was using the 32-bit dll file, but had no way of knowing this. Now, I am using Kontakt 3.dll, instead of Kontakt 3.dll. :icon_rolleyes:

Works great now!

One advantage of that is that old projects should load with the newer 3.5 version.

You can rename the dll to have a Kontakt35.dll if you want, but of course you would need to backup/copy out the 3.0 dll before overwriting it on install.

And then from cubase 4 and up it won´t load both cause they have the same internal name (AFAIK)
