I was very bored, entirely too bored with my snare mic, Audix D1. It's a natural sounding mic but I wanted some more beef. Home comes an Audix i5 there's the beef. snap and bottom right off the bat for poppy rock stuff. Very nice add to my collection.

Here's the real prize winner:

I've been wanting a real nice dynamic vocal mic for the live room so I don't have to set up the vocal booth (big-ass piece of plate glass and modular gobo setup that breaks my back) so I picked up a Heil PR35. Plugged it in and set it behind tonight's band's singer and :eusa_eh:. Holy crap :eusa_eh: this thing sounded flipping awesome, jaw dropping, really. A smidge of top end, and a little compression from the LA610 that it was patched through and the thing sat right in the mix where it should with all the body of a LDC. We're keeping all the vox tracks :icon_biggrin: The tight pattern, rejection and body was simply outstanding.

Bob Heil, you're the man, bro. I'm gonna give you a kiss the next time I see you!

I'm looking at purchasing a Mojave Audio MA-200. Uh huh.

Have you heard the Rode K2 or compared to it? You May appreciate the sound and flexibility of it's multi-pattern.

I have a MA-200.. And yep - wish sometimes it was multipatterned, but, hey, it's not.. Like the mic though.. It's nice on bright acoustic instruments like mandolin & banjo.. Sounds really good female voices too.. Didn't like it for my voice.. I sing low and the Mojave is a tick too dark sounding..

Well, after having an SSL Alpha Channel and sending it back (my Apogee Mini-Me sounded just as good), then trying out the NS Designs Wav4 Electric Upright Bass (my Peavey Cirrus 5 string fretless matched with RotoSound TruBass black nylons sounded more like an EUB), I've come to purchase the Mojave Audio MA-200 today. It should be here Thursday.

I though about getting an Egnater Rebel 20, but the 30 is coming out soon, and it's got 2 channels for only $50 more, plus I'm coming to appreciate the awesome sound of my Palomino V16, so I don't really need another guitar amp. Okay, so I don't really NEED a microphone, either.

So did the UPS man bring your Mic today? Full review in order!

I almost picked up a used SM7b yesterday for the heck of it. Salesman wouldn't negotiate the price though.

No. The FedEx man brought it.

Here's the deal, I already did a side by side test against my current vocal mic. I wasn't impressed enough to keep it.

There are lots of folks out there raving about this mic, and I can definitely tell a slight difference between what I'm using and this mic, but it isn't an $850 difference IMHO. So it's going back.
