hello from tasmania

ive been hanging out at www.cubase.com.. helping the unfortunate souls that don't know how to export midi, and think that Creative make great soundcards. the friendly unofficial forum.

the converstations there lack a certain, depth in the mix. seems that this is a more expressive place.
so its good to be here,,,

i love RME, nuendo and mixers with motorized faders, so i should fit right in
i hate mackie, because they treated me badly, and that other one that starts with B,
ive worked on some big projects but mostly small . its good to do lots of little ones.

i live very remotely on the edge of a cliff in tasmania. Polulation here is 9. There are 4 in my family. I detest society and cities.

i spend my days composing music and having as much sex as i can (can i say that? should i delete that? the moderator will just edit that out shouldn't they?)

i also like to drink tasmanian beer, which is a fine beer.
i understand that this beer won the worlds best beer award in 2007. Highly recommended.

that's enough about me

yea, more info on the beer..............

Population 9.............. how do you connect to the internet? satellite/dish ........ or? I'd suspect you have some high speed capability if you are working regularly in music from an isolated location........... that is what I call 'down under'.

Welcome.

Boags Premium Draught
...and you don't need to be Tasmanian to enjoy it. I've always got a cold case in the fridge to enjoy in Sydney. Fine drop.

Welcome Roon.

Depends which cliff he lives next to, I'm in Tassie too.

I live just down the road from the Cascade brewery, but it's Boags Premium in my fridge too :)

BTW, a son of the guy in the office next to me is the brewer for Moo Brew - give that a try if you ever get a chance, you won't be disappointed!

Welcome aboard roon!

Welcome. I've probably flown over your house a dozen times in my twin-engine Beechcraft Baron.

Oh, it's a virtual one. I'm not that wealthy...yet.

Yep - its pretty difficult...the hardest bit is coming home with a few big flathead and bream, buying a kilo of fresh king prawns on the way, and then having to CLEAN and COOK the fish you caught just a minute ago and then EAT it out in the sun with the prawns and a nice cold beer....I just dont know how I manage??

We may not have the convenience and creature comforts of living in a city here...but I wouldnt swap it!!! Maybe my tasweigian friends can say the same? Send me some abalone lads!! Its the one thing I miss from being a southerner in a previous life!!

What's the cost of living like over there?

How much does a 3 bedroom/2 bath house... (nice but not too extravagant) cost in that part of the world?

Always fantasizing about new places to live.

Really depends on location - but you can start looking for something quite livable with AU$380 000 or so if you dont mind being in town without any great view. We are living on 1acre in a 100yr old heritage home with gardens and a shed, 4br, 2 bath, and my guess would be around AU$600k or so ( ~US$415k ), probably a bit more, - our little realestate bubble hasn't burst here yet, just stopped growing - maybe only burst right at the top end of town....not sure if it will end up anywhere near what has happened to you guys though...

You can get much much cheaper if you dont want to live on the north coast of NSW as it is considered quite a sought after location it seems...

I've got a hankering to move to Perth...but the houses IMO are way overpriced.

Those prices seem cheaper than here in LA... which is good.... even now after the bubble bust. I feel California is going to hell in a handbag... but I'd still rather live here than anywhere else in the country... the weather is so nice and you are 1 hour away from mountain, beach, desert, industry.

But I do fantasize about selling everything and opening up a bait shop in Tahiti :D

Yo - big hi from the opposite kinda place to you in oz (slap bang on the edge of the CBD in sydney!)

Love the Tassie styles though...going up at easter for a week (another sound engineers wedding up in launy...going to start in hobart and drive round the east coast...thats if someone doesn't just give me 4 or 5 nights at the henry jones... damn I love that place.)

Any pointers on a good place to stay on the east coast...or should we just skip most of it and find a remote cabin near the bay of fires? (Its been a few years since I was last there...for the falls fest from memory...)

One day I think I might try get out to the tassie west coast... and do a "tour" of all the old regional radio stations... there's still some "throw away" AWA bigs etc sitting on shelves out that way...pretty much last place on the planet you might find em (if you're REALLY luck) aside maybe from NZ... or if your initials are MW (where does Mick find em???)
