So I did my first run with PT 8 MP today tracking a bluegrass group. Tracking not too bad. But mixing.... forget about it. No PDC - what a pain having to slide tracks around. Makes me appreciate Cubendo's strengths.

I think MP means M-Powered?

As far as I am concerned you can really only compare Nuendo with PTHD as far as being fair to PT. Nu still looks very good, especially when $$ is taken into consideration....

PTLE / M-powered is good for editing and not a lot else....the interfaces leave A LOT to be desired too...as far as the 00x series and Mboxes various are concerned, I havent tried the maudio bits...

Yeah - M Powered. I picked up v7 last year and never really used it, but had people asking if I had PT :) I cannot justify HD yet.

Yesterday's client wanted to have a PT session because they will take it to another studio in Nashville sometime in the summer to add some parts and do the final mixing. Yesterday's mix was more for a demo/mp3 job for a local label.

Hey Dave,

I have a ,longh detailed conversation with aclose frined at Digi over PDC, and one of the first questions was why haven't my LE clients been bitching in droves to me about this over the years..

Hers the lowdown..,

There is PDC in LE/MP , it is restricted to the a combined total specified by the latency buffer setting. If a combination of plugins, or even one plugin's latency exceeds the total buffer setting, then you there is no vehicle for PDC.

The inhouse Digiplugs do not have high latency if any at all, so for those that work primarliy within those bounds, they do not hit the PDC wall.

This is in no way trying to excuse or defend its obvious deficiency in this department btw.. :-)

There is a 3rd party plugin that can be inserted first in the chain that allows you to ping for the correct latency and then adjusts the track for you, instead of sliding tracks.., just can't remember the name of it now

Maybe someone else can chip in ..

I think you may be talking about the Mellowmuse ATA plugin vin? The one that is now bundled with UAD2?

You insert an ATA 'slave' plugin in the first insert slot in EVERY track you have open, and then insert an ATA 'master' pluging on the 2trk mstr - and hit 'ping'....the master will then know the delays of the channels and can set the 'slaves' to delay accordingly...

I havent used it properly yet as I really dont use PTLE for anything but chopping drums and opening PT sessions to get into Nuendo...
