View Full Version : Thoughts on a New Machine

I am fed up with my current system and the issues I am running into. I have patience for one more thing to try (waiting for Matrox rme item to return) and then I am most likely off to build a new machine.
Currently what I run into is disk issues, regardless of whether I am on the internal or External raid. I am under the current assumption that the Geforce 9600 GT is hogging the PCIe bus.

This is my current setup, which I would like to exceed in performance:

N4.22+Nek
Tyan S2895
Amd 285's
SuperTalent Ram 4g
Geforce 9600GT
RocketRaid 1820A (Velociraptors - Raid 0) (PciX 133mhz),
ADK EChassis UAD2(quad)*2(5.2)
RME HDSPe Madi
XP sp2
Midex 8

2 - 300 Gig Velociraptors (Audio Raid 0)
2 - 300 Gig Maxtors (Samples Raid 0)
1 - 300 Gig Backup Drive
1 - OS Drive

When the system is performing, I have no issues playing 130 audio tracks while recording 24.

I plan to keep the RME HDSPe, UAD2's and the Velociraptors. Everything else is open to discussion.

What system would you build and why?

Thanks.

Any thoughts on this?

First off, read the thread on i7 here in this section of the forum.

I would advise against going with the more expensive i7940. I am overclocking my 920 at 3.2 GHz on air without even trying: no voltage bumps or anything.

I know people who are getting 4 GHz out of them on water cooling. The Corair RAM is good, I am using OCZ Gold PC12800 and have them clocked at 1600 with a slight voltage bump, although I'm not entirely sure they need it.

The UADs are problematic right now with X58 chipsets AFAIK. I am also running a Gigabyte X58 board, the UD3R. In all respects other than the UAD issue, it is a great board.

Thanks for the post. I have read the posts on the I7.

Thanks for the clarification on the UAD2's. That is one of my main criteria.
