Without watching the video, I can tell you what it is: it's called a head crash. It happens when one of the R/W heads comes into contact with one of the platters.

Actually, he shows something that isn't a head crash. A head crash produces ugly circular scratch marks on the platters. I am pretty sure I have one of those in a box somewhere, if I find it I will post a piccie, but it looks just like the rings of Saturn.

I had my Raptor go that "Click of Death" route and lost everything (mostly software and Music backup) but at least it was still under warranty. I got a new one fairly quick but it was a pain in the ass.

The on board electronics can also fail resulting in that sound. In that particular event, replacing what is usually the one board will take care of it.

It usually isn't the electronics that have failed however.
