I'm a huge fan of FXT and recently emailed support partially to see if anyone was alive over there, and also to answer a 64-bit question I had below. Here is the correspondance...

Hi Brett,

Current FXT version is compatible with 64-bit OS as long as you use 32-bit
plug-ins on the server. 64-bit plug-in support is coming soon.

Best,

-Andy

Not at the moment -- FXT 1.5 will have 64-bit plug-in support. No release
date has been announced yet, we will post an update on our site as soon as
it is ready. Alternatively you can sub to our news update at
www.fx-max.com if you've not done so yet.

Best,

-Andy

I'm not sure if this is the standard line, but it has given me hope that FXT development may continue / restart!

As for my 64-bit question, if anyone is using FXT and PLAY successfully I'd love to hear how much RAM you can use, and how stable it all is.

Interesting.

EVeryone across the planet has said that FX-MAX is dead and gone.

Everyone is going to the AI plugin from DV.
VSL was one coming as well.

If FXT actually makes it to the market, it maybe a little to late.

I like FXT, but DV AI apparently works at below 256 MS and 2 percent network load.

They better act soon, or everyone will be on another platform.

FXT 2 was announced:

Almost 2 years ago. I have a feeling it is an automated email response based on things in the email.

Hi Lex. Yes, I had lost hope ages ago but I'm allowing myself a small glimmer again :)

I'm aware of the upcoming competition from VSL but could you tell me a little more about the other plugin you refer to?

DV AI ?? What is that? Really, another network hosting program?

I wouldn't believe that latency until I see it. Unless you mean 256ms....!

I could use FXT at 128. However, only on simple arrangements. You can also only get 32 outputs with AI, which is half what I would need, should I decide to run a sample box.

FWIW I tried VE3 and whilst it was more efficient than FXT, I still couldn't get the latency down lower than 256 without hearing a fair number of pops as soon as I used more than 10 or so Instruments.

It's basically a network audio program, so that you don't need soundcards on the slave machines, and all audio travels down a network cable back to the DAW.

Could anyone provide a link? I'm struggling to google DV AI!

Thanks Daryl. I had a look at the faq and it still has a way to go to catch FXT. When the VSL version appears I'll be very interested (if FXT2 fails to materialise). A 64-bit FXT (or similar product) would be a lifesaver for those RAM-hungry samples.

There actually is a 64bit version of FXT, but it seems to have disappeared and I've deleted it from my hard drive. It might be worth hassling to see if you can get a copy.

Yes, I heard it was out there and it is still occasionally referred to (mythically) at the FXT forums. I understand Max is not so forthcoming with it now.

FXT 64-bit beta...are you out there?

Actually, I just asked Andy at FX Max RE the existence of a 64-bit FXT. He said he just checked and that Max "actually didn’t give it to anyone as it simply doesn’t exist at the moment". Hmmm. He also said that "He’s working on it full speed". Here's hoping...

Well I don't know what I deleted from my PC then. Maybe as I'm a "special" customer..... Ah. Perhaps I should have said nothing...... :icon_redface:

He said that ... "He’s working on it full speed".
It must be a very long road for Max if he is working full speed... I've basically given up on FXT, though I like the concept a lot. I couldn't get rid of occasional audio stuttering. By the time he finishes his virtual link it might have become practically useless because cpu power has grown a lot.
