Some of you might have heard an earlier mix if this track. Here is a updated mix where I have worked a lot more on it, particularly the drum sound (a mix of Superior 2 and Steven Slate drums).

I'd love to get some opinions and suggestions on this. thanks

Hey Stacy,

Need to have another listen on some better monitoring , but a quick listen on my net book with some headphones, the drums seem too far back in the mix, they are getting lost. Everything else seems to be sitting, just the drums are being swamped, I would definitely bring them up in the mix..

Great track btw.. :D

thanks Vin. I will take a look at the drum volume. It's been a bitch. It's either too loud or not enough.

Hi Stacy

Up to 00:40 fantastic buildup … like perfect .. and drums came in Just when I imagined they would … you’d got me set up fantastically.

06:28 to 6:50 … Whoah yes! … that pull-back of the drums .. ace. Kind of Highly Dignifies that lead out.

Have you made any changed to the drums since Tafcat’s comments? They seem to have body through the tonal range and the stereo spread. Definitely more ‘symphonic’ drums rather than rawk drumkit.

I can understand the comment about drum volume, and appreciate how it has been a challenge to you. My own angle on this is that you are defining your own sound and that I, the listener, if I am to be allowed to remain in the auditorium, am obliged to Learn how to Listen to it.

I’m not saying what you are doing is in any way obscure. But I am saying you are giving me a musical ride in which I have to take responsibility for hanging on to the rail. I have to find my OWN way of listening through the semi-transparent layers. You’ve not handed it to me on a plate.

Having said that, there is some pitter-patter on the snare or one of the toms which seems to have separated from the rest of the drum kit. Just one of the higher percussion frequencies … an example of it is at 1:46 … roughly 8 strikes at one/sixteenth intervals. Once I had noticed it, it kept ‘impinging’. The rhythms were working well but IMO it was stealing attention from other rhythmic elements .. such as plucked instrument.

I would SO listen to your music live!

OK
Take care.
Glyn.

Thanks so much Zenda for the kind comments and suggestions. Yes, I have actually worked on the drums a bit more as per Tafkats suggestion. He was totally right. I will have to post an updated mp3 soon. I will also take a look at that drum pattern issue you noted.
