I've loaded Play64 on my Vista 64 farm PC, with 8G of ram, and with only 40 or so instruments, task manager/resource manager are saying 71% of memory is used - and only 2.4G is showing on the meter. I ran 60-70 EWQL SO Platinum instruments on a core2duo with WinXP Pro, 4G ram, and the /3G switch and never had a problem with it. Play is set to stream all instruments.

With 8G of ram I would think I would be seeing about 25% of ram used.

Does this make sense? Am I missing something? I want to be sure I'm watching memory correctly before loading the other half of this set.

Solved. Extended memory mapping wasn't enabled in Bios.

Dedric,

Was Vista64 reporting the whole 8GB before you changed the setting in BIOS ?

It was, which is what was confusing. Task manager however would only register 3.4G available. 8G in system info, 3.4 in task manager. I guess they don't talk to one another. The devs for each probably work on different ends of MS's building - likely 5 miles apart.

I ended up guessing based on another "extended memory" post on bios setups for this board, and tried it - 8G now in task manager. However, I lost a half completed setup of 50 instruments in Play that I now have to reconfig one by one (probably a bug in Play that had nothing to do with the bios flip - just loaded C4/64 bit to test it as well, maybe C4 hosed Play's path reference to my multi.... sigh).
