This is for MTC sync. Ill mess with the MMC settings here as well

Nuendo/Cubase:

Transport/Project Synchronization Setup, Set Midi Timecode Destination

Protools LE :
1. Setup/Peripherals/Synchronization/ MTC Reader Port=ANY

2. Setup/Session , Make sure your Time Code Rate matches Nuendo for your SMPTE frame

I'll try it again.

The difference was that davidd stated that he got play/stop, locate, AND jog/shuttle.

I was unable to make jog/shuttle work and locate.

Even with VST System link and Cubase 4, Jog/shuttle was sketchy at best.

What Ive found is that if you have locators or Markers in your marker track in Cubase, you have to clik that marker and then hit the play button again fo rit to sync, same with the jog/shuttle, you can use it but it doesnt seem to jog/shuttle on the slave unto you hit play again. Now if I do play, stop, fwd, rwd, it locks right up to where Im at.

Yeah, it is doggy at best.

davidd's statement is a bit far from the truth. Thanks for your input and testing.

I guess I'll stick with VST system link for direct playback, and have a converted avi for the host that I can work in more detail.

It is a shame that VST system link is really no better than MMC.
It is a bit better is terms of quick response, but you'd think SB would have FF/Rew, jog/shuttle better.

Very difficult to edit with it as a slave.

System Link has the most accurate sync but is useless at following FF and RW. It has to park before it re-establishes itself. I like to see picture rewind and fast forward... so it's MTC based syncing for me.

BTW.... Hi! :)

Does MTC job/shuttle or locate to selection?
Does Cubase 4 do MTC?

Hello mate :p

I exhausted many permutations of Syslink - MMC - MTC.
I have settled on running video using MTC from Nuendo PC into Cubase Mac.
The systems are WC clock locked.
Mac/Cubase hosts QT movies which are either run full screen on the Mac or output via FW to a TV monitor. No Declink. No PC format issues. In fact, any suitable host on the Mac which can read MTC and lock to WC is a viable video host. Apparently not PT, according to you. (Reaper?)
As someone else wrote - (maybe you?) it pays to have an old Mac lying around.
MTC from Nuendo to Cubase allows jog/shuttle and location. I'm not sure MMC would provide any additional benefit apart from track arming of the remote (not interested, personally) MTC, I have found is a one way street without any hassle.

Proper setup?

I'll be using Midi Over LAN.

I'm using MTPAVs on the PC side and a Midisport 4x4 on the Mac side. (Midisport actually a little faster than the MOTU.)

Sorry I meant setup in Nuendo Master/Cubase Slave.

When I tried, something wasn't right.

BTW, MOL is faster than the hardware units. ;)
I only use hardware for external things like MCU, old modules.

Hey Lex, I have often had PT chasing MTC from Nuendo no problems.....but I am not sure if I had any jog/shuttle action....Once i set my rig back up here (I have been off mixing) I will see what I can get happening with PT8 syncing to N4 via MTC...

No doubt - but it's the only thing running out of the interface and I've checked sync against clicks. It's as good as it gets without being sample locked.
Oh... master is Nuendo.

Hello to all and best wishes to the creators of the new forum!

Now on topic:
If Nuendo is MMC master, and PT is MTC master,
you can start-stop-jog-shuttle PT from Nuendo.

Well, it works. Itīs still MTC, and 40 years after the first flight to the moon one could expect better sync IMHO :-)

My test setup: one Nuendo MacPro, one PT LE MacPro, Midi over Lan.

MOL settings: Mol 1 = Nuendo to PT, Mol 2 = PT to Nuendo.
After change of MoL settings, reboot!

PT settings:
setup/peripherals/Sync - set MTC gen. port= mol2; enable MMC slave.
transport window: enlarge, activate "generate MTC"

Nuendo settings:

Transport/project-sync setup:
--set MTC input =mol2;
--under MMC Master: activate MMC - set MMC out = Mol1
Devices/MMC master - set online
Transport window - sync online.

I just tried to figure, how to setup connections.
I did not test performance/stability with real projects yet.

All the best
David
