View Full Version : Software that will Measure LEQ A - Dia Norm
Is there any software that will measure this.
Dolby has a hardware unit, is there software?

Audio Leak 3.03, fixes the crashes and the free version will measure 2 channel LEQ A weighted.

Achieving Dialog norm of -23.
So since LEQ works by analyzing the entire program, how does one achieve the dialog norm?
I don't see how it would be possible it to know the LEQ-A while mixing when it has to analyze the entire program.
For example, it is 90 minutes. Unlike a trailer which is 30 sec to 2 minutes, it is easier to figure out what to lower.

Here's some good info that popped up on Gearslutz:

John.
Hmmm.
Just ran Audio leak of the LTRT mix. A-weighted states -33.3 over 89 minutes.
This is for NBC. Their spec sheets clearly state that within reason, anything not -23 (They like ITU as well, but sub with LEQ-A), will be rejected.
This makes me wonder. It is a loud mix. Very loud. 5.1 mix.
Full scale was over 0 without the DMU container., so with it was +19.
NBC spec states that max dynamic level is -8dbfs or +12dBu.
I ran from stems, and lowered the whole mix by -3 db, and the dialog by -2dB.
Same thing I do with Feature LTRT (for Dolby) mixes except I raise the dialog 1dB and lower the FX 1 dB for FX heavy shows, and 0 for talky shows.
I set the container on the Dolby DMU for +2.0 (+6 is full range)
I tucked FX back as to not squash the material too much so the FX could still have some dynamic range.
Now with the A weighted reading, and NBC's +12 limit, it sounds to me like they want this whole program material SQAUSHED.
Now it is possible I could set the DMU container to 0 and squash the essence out of it.
Any help would be great. I need to give info to my client tomorrow.
I am wondering if I should rent a Dobly box for tomorrow.
I am having my assistant run the LTRT again for my at the studio with the container set at 0 and my console mix to see what I get tomorrow morning.
Thoughts?
Thanks

I knew there was something weird.
I can;t even get people who mix for NBC that can give me an answer.

Not surprising....I have gotten terse emails returned when asking the 'audio dept' of certain HDTV stations about their very very ambiguous and vague audio spec....these guys are just button monkeys surely.
Drives me mad when I ask a very clear and specific question, someone doesn't know the answer so they act all 'what the? why would you want to know that??' and I just give em whatever I think is right.
hmmm...TV stations eh? ha!
