Yep, still waiting for a MAC Pro here, too. Also for a Blu-ray drive (finally) and an updated DVD Studio Pro (the only app not updated in Final Cut Studio 2) and Snow Leopard. Plus the money to actually buy one :D

Not that important for me with the updated DVD studio pro.
I have invested in CS4 Master collection.
The new Encore is really good.

this system we got from intel has a completely open Dev bios a Real PITA.

takes 20 minutes to post.

makes me wish i had that kinda access to any bois to fix stuff but man what a pain.

we got no documentation, its not a retail board yet so no where to get it.

just trying to figure out where to stick ram has been a pain....
every time you reboot 20+ minutes...

.. sounds like fun... :icon_no:

I'll see what I can dig up here at my end from my local reps , maybe we can attack this from 2 fronts..

I have been there before with some Intel BETA boards, I can never figure out why they send the BETA boards out in that state, and then the support are usually as clueless as we are when its not happening. How the fark do they think we are supposed to do any viable dev work on it.. :eusa_think:

Hang in there Bro..

Just out of curiosity, did you install CS4 Master Collection on the same machine as Nuendo? It seems like every CSx install I do slows down the machine, so I have been too paranoid to install it on my dedicated DAWs...

Out today: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_pro?mco=NDE4Mzg0MQ

See they have the dual processor models too.

I have ordered today.

Dual socket Nehalem, 2,26ghz, 6GB RAM, ATI displaycard, 640GB disk, dual DVDdrives, wireless etc.

Looking forward to get this killer machine.

NB!!
People looking to save money. The single socket version seem not to be upgradable to dual socket.
So beware if you want to start with one CPU, then go for two faster ones later.

No problems with CS4 slowing down the computer as long as you do not install that database file sharing crap.

Hey Pal,

Sorry to rain on your parade, but.... , I would take a closer look at that 2.26 GHZ model..

Read in Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Xeon#5500-series_.22Gainestown.22)

Seems it is limited to 1066 memory , which looks like its actually hard set within the OBMC. The first chip that is equivalent to the desktop i7 920's is the 9550, which here in Oz bumps the system up another $2550.00 :icon_eek3:

Also this whole 4 memory slots per socket is really strange considering the optimum configuration is Tri Channel. 4 slots will definitely limit the expansion without dropping to Dual Channel.

Check out some coming 3rd party boards in comparison Here (http://img.hexus.net/v2/internationalevents/HPC2008/Supermicro-big.jpg) and Here (http://img.hexus.net/v2/internationalevents/HPC2008/Tyan-big.jpg)

9 Memory slots per socket , to allow 3 x pairs of Tri Channel , 18 slots all up.

There are some serious corners being cut by Snapple this time around, IMO.

I'll have to check that Snapple haven't ripped us all off and thrown in a simpler CPU as the barebone option.
But I think it is strange compared to earlier MAC pros.
Until I get proof I hope Intel have given Apple a custom X55xx series CPU and not Apple using the E5520 CPU.

Regarding the 1066 MHz RAM, that is for all CPUs, so that means they have bottlenecked all CPUs.
I think they have uses 1066 Mhz RAM to save money. I bet you can put 1333 MHz RAM into the MAC pro, and it will utilize it.

I smell a revision 2 of this model in the very near feature. Just like what happened with the very first 8 core MAC pro. It only had a lifespan of a few months.

Hey Pal,

I think its actually a smoke screen so no one questions why the base model required the slower RAM. I have no doubt that 1333 RAM will be utilized by the 2 upper CPU chips , but not the base chip.

What I smell is something a little different .. :eusa_whistle:

What I smell is a "we don't know yet soup", and until I get my 2,26 8 core we probably won't :-)
If not some other poor sucker :eusa_wall: (like me) get their model before me and would like to share that they (possibly) have been held for fool by Mr Big Fruit.

Let's wait and see.

Sadly, not yet. I've ordered it through a Apple partner, and this sadly adds some days for the delivery.

But, the benchmarks are looking better after a few sites have tested, and possibly the software makers have optimized a bit,

Here's a recent one

Looking forward to getting my MAC

I will run it with one of my RME HDSPe MADI cards and also for testing a RME FireFace 400.

I also have a TC Konnekt 6D I can test with.

First I have to get it in house.

Well, now it's been about four weeks, and I'm dying to know how these new Macs are working out. Have you gotten this yet?

I just threw away three Asus motherboards, after trying to resurrect my system imaging computer. I'm giving up on that now. I probably won't buy anymore PC MBs to attempt to bring that back to life. I already had those. So I was compelled to try 'em all. I have only two Windows machines here that remain at all important. Both are running Steinberg apps. If I could move those apps to Macs, I would eliminate Windows here entirely. I'm already planning to get rid of my Windows 2003 Server machine in favor of a Mac server (as soon as Snow Leopard gets released). I'm tired of bothering to support both platforms.
