Hey fellow Aussies,
After seeing Brian's announcement here on the C5 upgrade pricing and grace period, I tried my luck at getting the info from our local mob..
Conversation went something like this..
> Hey , I need some detail on the Cubase 5 upgrade pricing ..
< No idea, don't have any detail as yet..
> Right, how about the grace period, how long is that for ?
< No idea on that either , may have some more detail next week, I'll get back to you.
> O.K, how about any idea when it will be available here ?
< No exact detail on the time line, but don't expect anything before the end of Feb..
Right, Thanks.. Click

Sounds like a typical Steinberg associate. The only requirement is an I.Q. no higher than a shoe lace.:rotfl::eusa_whistle:

I have tried to contact Yamaha Australia about Steinberg products a couple of times with no luck. I get the feeling that most people there have never heard of Steinberg, I guess they are more interested in domestic keyboards and hi-fi. I just tell customers to buy overseas now, I'm not sure shops in Australia can even get stock anymore.

Hey Steve,
I hear ya Bro..
The one problem if everyone bypasses the Aussies dealers, thru no fault of our own , is that it will hurt those of us in the process who's business revolves around delivering and supporting solutions to end users..
I would love to bypass the local channel to be honest, as I do 100% of my own support for my Steinberg clients, so its not like I am loosing anything there , so to me a box mover is a box mover, I couldn't care less where the box is coming from.

..hot off the press.
Cubase Studio 5 : $649.99
Cubase Studio 5 update from Cubase Studio 4 and Cubase SL3 : $209.99
Cubase Studio 5 upgrade from Cubase SL1/2, Cubase Essential 4, Cubase AI/ LE 4, Cubase SE3, Studio Case 2, Sequel 1/2 : $419.99
Cubase 5 : $949.99
Cubase 5 update from Cubase 4 and Cubase SX3 : $419.99
Cubase 5 upgrade from Cubase Studio 5, Cubase Studio 4, Cubase SL3: $529.99
Cubase 5 upgrade from Cubase SX1/2, Cubase SL1/2, Cubase Essential 4, Cubase AI/LE 4, Cubase SE3, Studio Case 2, Sequel 1/2 : $849.99
Cubase Studio 5 Grace Period Update : $54.99
Cubase 5 Grace Period Update : $64.99
Now I know our $ is weak against the U.S , but the update pricing is nowhere near being on parity even using todays low of 64 cents against the greenback. :nono:
No stocks until end of February ..

Thanks Vin - I won't be rushing into it at that price...

Music Link tried something like this with SX3 - charging way over the odds for an upgrade. The Australian users on the forum at Steinberg kicked up a stink there and elsewhere and after a rethink by Music Link the upgrade price was reduced substantially. $299 is about where it should be. Some sort of concerted pressure on Steinberg and Yamaha locally and internationally might be in order.

Hey Phil,
I remember that last effort, and I also remember me being actively a part of that online and locally, requesting the International Sales Manager at the time, Mark Porter to comment on Global price parity.
We eventually got them to see reason, but it was a lot of effort.
WE really shouldn't be even needing to make a point of it, how hard is it in a Global market to work out a fair and honest pricing policy.
I personally couldn't be bothered trying to get Yamaha to listen to reason , its different this time around as we are not dealing with the same entities, and to be honest, I am way past fighting against the continuing MO.. :headbang-1:

C'mon Vinnie - let's raise the Jolly Roger, put our cutlasses between our remaining teeth and give them what for - just for old time's sake! :soapbox:
Whaddaya say :bouncy:
:icon_lol:
Wow - seems like your prices are about $100AUD higher than the straight exchange rate. C5 from C4 should be more like $319 AUD. What are Digi product prices like? Closer to the 1.59:1 or so rate?

What's the deal with buying updates from other regions? Is it allowed? When Nuendo is updated I am concerned that the Australian upgrade price will be arbitrarily high. I would be happy to buy it here if it were at relative parity to the rest of the world, but I will have a friend buy me one in the US and send it to me if we are to be gouged.

Support is where the location comes into play. If you buy in the US, you can only get support if in the US. Then again, support sucks so bad that it doesn't really matter, does it. :eusa_eh:
My digi upgrades are purchased online from the US store so I wouldn't know. I think as long as your base system was purchased here they would support you. Actually I have a feeling digi would talk me through something even if I bought a rig whilst on holiday in Rome - they have always seemed willing to talk me through something without any inquisition.....

"Cubase 5 update from Cubase 4 and Cubase SX3 : $419.99 "
That is an appalling upgrade price. After being burnt with the C4 upgrade last time I cannot bring myself to continue to support this company. I am not happy Jan!!!!

Excellent first post bigjase :098:
Welcome to Cubendo!
I for one am quite excited about some of the new C5 features - VST expression and tempo track in the project window (finally!) amoung others. What frustrates me is that, at least on paper, this upgrade is what C4 should have been. I reluctantly payed $299 to jump from SX3 to C4 rather late in the cycle, primarily to eliminate a few bugs (the broken 'link key editors' preference being one of the most annoying), so the prospect of having to shell out $420 in addition for an update I should have received in the first place doesn't fill me with warm feelings for SB.
Spectrasonics is the model company for me. New and free updates for Omnisphere, and RMX (astounding considering the significance of the update and the age of the plugin) and sensational pricing for Omnisphere as a loyal customer....It would be nice if Steinberg was watching this and taking note...

Come on Nate, please Man, not in this thread as well...
Getting back to the upgrade pricing, can someone in Europe/U.K please confirm the pricing in their local region.
I read somewhere that the C5 Update is 199 Euro, which will then bring the Australian prices close enough to parity with the Euro update pricing..
Still begs the question why the U.S still believes $199 US / Euro are the same thing.

I always thought that was curious. Works out good for us though. :icon_razz: I guess maybe since we are a bigger market they sell more thus the price can be "lower".

You are probably right that there are some concession being made to to the size of the market in the U.S, but it doesn't really sit well in regards to a Global marketing perspective..
Anyhow,
Couldn't care less either way to be honest.., not enough hours in the day to try and speculate the M.O here.., I only wish I could source a grey supply channel, may speed things up for me locally.. :D

Hm...
Can't say the prices surprise me.
We live in a part of the world where, when trying to buy a new syncrosoft dongle from local sydney retailers, i get responses from "um, I think we can get one in, it might take 1 or 2 months though" through to "what is that" (and they sell cubase) thru to "we can't get that in for you. Why do you need another one anyway?"
And I ended up getting it from the one shop that said they had them, only to get an email 2 days after paying for the new dongle that "it will be late feb at the earliest before we can supply the dongle." Gotta love it. OT I know, but it shows you where steinberg sits over here, and why the shops won't fight for better pricing on our behalf.
I wonder if my cubase version (tied to the nuendo dongle, even if yamaha support here in australia SWEAR it isn't - well, they didn't swear...you know.... :D) is going to cost that much to upgrade... given it was bought just to give me the Seq 4 features when I was otherwise stuck with N3.... and is stuck to my N4 dongle....
Just thinking out loud....
Brendan.

Brendan,
I have a Steini Syncrosoft key in stock, just give me a call in the morning if you want to grab it..
Why doesn't it surprise me that Yamaha don't have any in stock.. :icon_rolleyes:
