View Full Version : [Bug?] Shift key in notepad creates backspace?

This happens here all the time in N4.2.2 and may be new to 4.2.2:

REPRODUCTION:
Open the Notepad.
Type some lower case characters followed by a space.
Type the shift key - a backspace will be entered.
To capitalize a character, I have to remember to enter two spaces.... hence I never use the notepad anymore.

Anyone else, or is this a quirk in how I have my mod keys setup?

edited for updated info:

C4.5.2 does not respond exactly like you're describing... However, I found something else immediately on my first attempt to repro yours:

If you leave Cubase to view another window, then return to Cubase and click the Notepad window...
IF you click anywhere in the box below existing letters, the cursor shows up in the last letter row directly above that point. If you click in the notepad box anywhere to the right (or below right), the cursor will show up where you left it before.

That is very similar. I'm thinking assignment of the shift key as a modifier within Nuendo might affect it, or alter how it functions.

Sounds like a bug either way, but with another variable. If I hold shift, it will simply backspace/delete my notepad letter by letter - i.e. if functions exactly like backspace.

Do you have anything engaged in Windows Accessibility Options? (I don't)

I don't either.

Hey guys - neither scenario is happening here in 452.

And Terry - unless I am missing something, your repro is flawed. Becasue after you re-enter Cubase, the cursor is no longer in the notepad area, therefore, you can't see if it went backwards, or stayed in the same place. Maybe that is a bug... :eusa_eh:

Yes, the cursor is no longer in the notepad area when you return.
Then, when you click in the notepad area to initiate the cursor, IF you click anywhere in the box below existing letters, the cursor shows up in the last letter row directly above that point. If you click in the notepad box anywhere to the right (or below right), the cursor will show up where you left it before. This explains what I was experiencing in my earlier post.
It was dependent on where my first click was upon Notepad re-entry.

I don't know that I would call this a bug, more just a pattern of function that should be remembered.
