ATTENTION: According to a post by Brian McGovern from Steinberg-NA at Steinbergusers.com....
Original text from 9/15/08:

There's a post at n.com saying that anyone who purchased Cubase 4 since December 2008 can upgrade to C5 for only $29. Check with your seller to confirm.

For everyone else, it is apparently going to remain at $199.

Well it isn;t great either.
JAn1 2008 to June 30 2008?

You have to be registered at Mysteinberg.

If there are discounts, they need and should make this available to the user when they buy the product.

So this USA only? I don;t get it.
How about all the users who had to stay with C3? and N3 because Version 4 was worthless?

I know. Bend over. We are going to stick the dongle in there.!!!:smash:

SB won't eat it. They'll shove it up the bung!

We'll their policy, SB, isn't very well received. Some of the other forums users are pissed about even the $29 upgrade if they just bought it.
Others are pissed about the upgrade price and the fact they bought it within days of Dec1.

Sorry. There just seems to be alot of "upset" users out there.

This kind of policy doesn't seem to be "world wide" either.

Personally, and actually, If I bought C4 yesterday, and had to pay $29 to upgrade, I'd be pissed.
If you buy PT after PT8 is released, you get the upgrade free.
I think it was even a month or more before as well.

So, at this point, SB will see. People are going to upgrade, others will not.
I'd say, just based on the vibe from other forums, is that at least half the C4 users won't upgrade until they know that it works.
The Sx3 users, and there are alot of them, won't upgrade at this point either.

Lex, those who purchased Cubase 4 from January to June 2008 paid the old higher price in the US, so this discount is aimed at giving them some relief if they upgrade.

Yes, I would be pissed if I bought Cubase 4 on November 30th and the upgrade costs me $199 when someone who bought it the next day pays only $29 for C5... But, whenever a distributor makes some considerations for their customers based on pricing modifications or update transition periods, the lines need to be drawn somewhere.

It's like a Tuesday only sale... show up on a Monday or Wednesday, and you miss out on the deal. :sulkoff:

I'll be paying full upgrade price IF I choose to upgrade, but I at least appreciate that Steinberg-NA is making an effort to consider users in general.
As my grandma used to say, "It's better than a stick in the eye"...

Yeah, it's better than nothing for sure.

So basically someone screwed up.

Unlike the past where there it was a discounted upgrade rate, now it is just a flat rate for the upgrade.

So there was never suppose to be a "bump" in price if upgraded later.

I still don't understand the pricing of Nuendo.

399 with NEK.

But, if ordered separately (which ALL Nuendo users were promised they would get Cubase plus Nuendo exclusive features) now pay more buying them separately.

N3-N4 - 249

And now it doesn't even seem you can buy NEK separately.
Before it was 100 more to buy it separately. Now, you either have to buy with, or without.

Use to be 249 for NEK separately.

Man, it is all screwed up.

See anything strange above (aside from the ridiculous price for the retail NEK)???

CUBASE SX3 owners only pay $199 to get Cubase 5!!!!
No matter what the Nuendo 5 upgrade price is,
this same equal pricing structure sure as hell better apply to
Nuendo 3 owners upgrading to Nuendo 5 as well!!!
We skipped N4 for a reason. We shouldn't be penalized for it.

It stands to reason:
Cubase 3 & 4 owners get to upgrade to Cubase 5 for $199.

Nuendo 3 owners should pay the same price as Nuendo 4 owners to upgrade to Nuendo 5. The precedent is set.

You bleeding Americans; still whining. Again you get a better deal than the Europeans, and yet you're still not satisfied. :icon_rolleyes:

Jealousy becomes you.
:rotfl:

I still haven't forgiven SB for letting you guys get a cross-grade to Cubase 4 that not only allowed you to keep Nuendo but gave you a separate licence for Cubase, whereas us mugs over the pond were offered a combi-licence.

Actually, that makes me think that SB should really give all Nuendo users a time limited combi-licence for Nuendo 4 and Cubase 5, as they have been too incompetent to program backwards compatibility. New topic maybe?

Two words; Green Card.

Having said that, it looks likely that the Welsh may be considered an Ethnic Minority, so the Green card issue could be moot...!

That special offer only lasted 2 weeks in the US...
I got one. But, if it makes you feel any better, I never even opened it to install until last month... :D

Lex, All...

So, WNAMM has ended. Before anybody gets upset, please allow my to get me feet settled back in the office. There will be a "Grace Period" offer and I will explain this once I can prepare the offer. I assure you it will be an attractive offer.

The post you all mentioned refers to a previous price reduction and is not relevant to the recent release of Cubase 5.

As always, thank you for supporting Steinberg and Steinberg North America.

Can international customers buy the upgrade from North America or is it regional only? I doubt that Yamaha Australia will even carry stock.
