Okay, I know it's late to be raising problems installing Cubase 4 but...

I installed Cubase Studio 4.1.2 from the supplied DVD tonight and everything went smoothly. I then tried to patch it to version 4.5.2 using the patch which is supposed to work with any version of Cubase Studio 4 and 17% through installation I got the error message "Incorrect command line parameters: Windows Installer V2.00.2600.1106". When I click OK on the message, the installation seems to continue without problems - an updated Syncrosoft control panel is installed, lots of updates to Halion One etc. When prompted I insert the original disc and I get no further error messages but when the upgrade is complete and I launch Cubase it still claims to be version 4.1.2.

What I think is happening is that just one part is failing - patching the application itself. I've done some searches of the Cubase forum but there is no match there for the error message I am getting. Has anyone come across this before? Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Simon.

Hey,

I have always found installation off the DVD and then updating to be a little hit and miss, and have made it a habit to always install of HD..

Try this..

Copy the whole 4.1.x installation files from the DVD into a temp directory on a HD, and then also copy the 4.5.x update file into the root directory of the C4 installation folder and try running it from there.

Having both executibles in the same root directory should iron out the installion issues you are having.

I would also suggest using the 4.5.1 update over 4.5.2, where the boys actually broke a few things in the last update, one being the video truncation issue.

If you have an issue where the HALionOne install does not follow on correctly, you can find the manual installer in the Soundframe folder in the additional content folder. You can run the installation manually if need be.

Lets us know how you go..

Thanks for the tips Vin - I'll certainly try that.

Regarding the 4.5.1 update, I can't find it on the Steinberg website. I don't suppose you know whether it's available for download anywhere?

Thanks again,

Simon.

Okay, maybe I won't try that after all :-)

It turns out that you need Windows Installer version 3.1 to apply Cubase 4.xx updates and I only have Installer version 2.xx. I'll download Installer 3.1 and try again.

Hey Simon,

You can download it directly from Here (ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Cubase_Studio_4/4.5.1.270/PC/)

Hi TAFKAT,

By the time I saw your response I had already fixed my installation of the 4.5.2 patch so I'm running 4.5.2 for now but I've downloaded the 4.5.1 patch you indicated so that if I have any trouble with 4.5.2 I can revert to 4.5.1.

I assume there's no "official" list of the bugs that were introduced with 4.5.2 but if there's a consolidated list anywhere that you know of it would be good to see.

Thanks again,

Simon.

I had a similiar problem before, couldn't install 4.5.2 right after 4.0 off the DVD, but after I installed 4.5.1 AND RAN IT ONCE (!) updating to 4.5.2 worked like a charm.
