View Full Version : Nuendo 5?
The Cubase 5 update looks to have a lot to it, but for us Nuendo users, that's all well and good... but.... when will we see N5?
My guess: August, maybe.

Nah.
That is Nuendo 4.5.
August the following year maybe.

True. I assumed 4.5 was just a myth to begin with.
True. I assumed 4.5 was just a myth to begin with.
Then paid fixes again. Plus another year before the software is working properly, maybe more if there is alot more added in features.
That could possibly mean you'd be stuck with 4, solo/mute problems and video issues until V5 is "unshelfable".
Let's be honest. When has there been a new version that was ready out of the box?
N2 was 2.2. N3 was 3.1, C4 was 4.5.2 with the exception of the solo video issues.
So based on logic, practicality and history, we know that V5 for Cubase won't really be "reliable" for AT LEAST another year.
4.5.2 was 2 years from release.
Nuendo 5. We'll, unless they have fired the entire beta team, or structured it in a way that different aspects of the program can be tested, then I see another N4/C4.
Sorry to "lack confidence" or am "dismissive" about the new version.
While it looks nice, and has alot of cool features, I have to rely on what we ALL know as users.

Though I would love to be proved wrong!
At best, I'm cautiously optimistic, but reality does suggest 5.1/5.2 being the only real solution.
I know they already said 7 months for the fixes, which puts a fix around June. If that's 4.5, then you are right - Nuendo 5 probably won't hit the streets until after NAMM 2010. Then if we have to wait for 5.1/5.2... 2011? oh well. Might as well have seen a prerelease announcement for ProTools 10 today given that mean time between announcement and real world use...

Well, I don't know for sure the work flow in development, but it is entirely possible that they'd release C5, then N5, and lastly N4 final release. I'm guessing there could be some rationale for that. Push out new shit ASAP to remain "competitive" on the feature set, and then fix later - in the case of N4 because of the stink created.
This would probably mean, I'm guessing again, that the first releases of v5 will have the same solo/mute and vid truncation bugs as v4. Not pretty.
It also begs another question:
Suppose they ship N5 with fixes for the most basic and severe bugs, and do so before the final N4 release. And suppose that this release is more stable and less buggy than the C5 release that comes first. My prediction is that plenty N4 users will upgrade to v5 and the question then becomes if they at that point will even bother with a fix for N4, considering that most people have left Seq4......
Again, who is going to wait until 2010/11 for Nuendo 5 to be in a "working" state.
5.1/5.2 will really be the version, possibly, that we could use.
WE all know the LONG update waits, that break more, and fix less.

The fabled solo/mute fix will never happen in Nuendo 4. I am willing to bet my firstborn. :sulkoff:

The N4 update if it eventuates at all, needs to be released a good time before N5 , or its a total and utter waste of time. With the time frame of end of Q2 slated for N4.x , it begs the question how long after for N5, and by the time N5 does hit, will it be 5.1, again leapfrogging N5.0 altogether. ?
Then again, why are we even bothering speculating... :willy_nilly:

What else are we going to do in the years between updates? :eusa_think:

According to Timo, not correct. Solo/Mute to be addressed in the next update to N4 along with lots of others.
Why the fuss? C5 is not doing anything new really. The Batch export is not as good as MEAP is already, and that works just fine.
Pitch correction? Melodyne. Already own it, don;t care about a bundled version what with the new Melodyne update due any time now.
More MIDI tools for looping. Whoop-de-do.
The Automation is cut back from N4 - we still have preview functionality & all the fill options that are not in C5.
C5 is a great update for C4 users, but nothing for Nuendo users to stress over IMHO.
