Thread in the Gearslutz new products forum, or just check the EW site in an hour.. link removed here just in case... :-/

...check the P2 upgrade link lower down, and do the conversion from Euros.... hmm.

I got a Kontakt 3 upgrade for $125 recently, and that supposedly includes a free upgrade to 3.5 with 64-bit support. Thinking hard about whether Play is worth it... still doesn't work right - it mutes audio output randomly in the latest version - I have to close/reopen the Nuendo project to get it back - same happens for users in every other app.

Careful. You just might bring the dogs of war down upon our peaceful forum from EastWest. :sulkoff:

I don't quite get why you have to upgrade the Play plugin? So if you already have Play libraries and you buy a new library that comes with Play 2 do you still have to upgrade your other libraries? If so that's absolutely ridiculous.

That's a good question. Play is universal on the system, so when you update it, it updates for all libraries you have installed there, so it should be one upgrade. But if you buy a new lib with Play 2, who knows?

What will be interesting is whether you have to update for each system with Play. I'm about to setup a Vista 64 farm PC running Play with 8G of Ram - currently Play 1.1.6 sucks - it mutes outputs randomly, so it's unusable (I'll have to find an older release). If I have to pay to have a fix for that.... grrr. I also have Play on my host system. I ain't paying for it twice, and once is really pushing it unless it fixes some major workflow limitations (no view of all instruments, etc).

If Kontakt 3.5 runs well native 64 bit, I may never use Play.

What I've read so far seems to suggest that the upgrade to Play 2 will automatically upgrade all your installed play instruments. You'd think that the new instruments like Silk will come with Play 2 as standard so I'd imagine that if you buy and install one of those then you wouldn't need to buy the Play 2 upgrade at all.

I still think it's ridiculous they are charging a upgrade fee for the rompler. lol They are selling a sample library, not a sampler.

So infact it looks like they will continue to include 'Play' with their new instruments and you'll have to buy Play 2 if you want the editing capabilities - sneaky!

As long as they update Play 1 to be more useful, and fix the bugs, that's fine with me - at least add an overview of instruments instead of having to scroll through the dropdown box one at a time (that gets really annoying with 16 instruments to change mic position on, and having to do them one at a time, with 2-3 mouse clicks each). And add the option to change mic position for all instruments at once in Play Orch would be a big time saver for when I want to alter the normal set of instruments and not have to create and save a version for each mic position manually.

If that is the case, I would probably only buy Play2 for the main system, or maybe I'll bypass it altogether.

..I have been following some of the fallout over the whole PLAY saga , and stumbled on a thread where one of East West's support guys tells a user to shove a DVD up his arse... :icon_eek3:

I really think these guys are loosing the plot.. Here (http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11258&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)
