Ahhh what the Hell..

Case 1:

Client with a current Core2Quad / C4 configuration, that had been running fine , decided to add a Duende SSL DSP unit into the mix. On attempting to launch any of the PlugIns, the system would Bluescreen, remove Duende, alls well.., simple enough.. The end user contacted Steinberg to report the issue in case it was an issue with C4 .

The response from the Steinberg support , "the issue is caused by having Hyperthreading enabled, go into BIOS and disable Hyperthreading" - you know where this is heading . The client gets into BIOS and of course cannot find any reference to Hyperthreading, as the Core2 architecture doesn't have HT implemented.

Now having some deadlines , he fires up his older DAW rig, an AMD X2, installs the Duende, and on launching a plugin, bang, Bluescreen.

Fires another email to Steinberg support to report the same behaviour on the AMD X2 system. The response.. , you guessed it, "Disable Hyperthreading "

Case 2:

Client running Wavelab 5.0 on XPSP1 without issue using a Plextor DVDR , needing to update to SP2 for an application upgrade that require SP2, discovered that Wavelab no longer recognised the Plextor correctly, only allowing 4x max burn speed, and failed burns. Nero remained unchanged and uneffected.

After trying to update the CDR profiles, removing and reinstalling Wavelab and even a few other suggestions from P.G, the actual developer , all was drawing a blank. The client had already contacted local support who couldn't offer anything more to the mix , but offered to fire off a support ticket to HQ.

The response finally landed in the inbox from head of tech support at HQ, suggested solution. Try changing the brand of Media.
