The Art Vista booth... where I'll be exhibiting my library is right next to Steinberg... I mean we share the same wall LOL.
I met Brian... actually... he spotted me and asked "are you Thonex???" LOL
If my Nuendo LASS string library demos crash during the NAMM show... guess who will be within shouting distance??!!! :-)
I look forward to seeing more of Brian and the rest of the gang :-)
Cheers,
T

So you guys are already there setting up? Pretty cool about Steinberg being neighbors. You need to post real time intel here for us... on your project and Steinberg activities. :ninja:

Hey T,
Ask Ondo about his angle on Hyperthreading, I bet it will be riveting....
Now if Fredo shows up, you be sure to pass on my regards, ya hear..:smash:

Pass my regards too!
I'm actually bummed out I can't go. I'd be taking "asshole" to a whole other level. Seriously.
Would've been great. Maybe wear a T-Shirt with all the bugs on it. You know like a tour T-shirt, except with all the buts. Perhaps hand out petitions to sign up for a class-action suit. Go ask questions in public about how the fuck they can release a software with solo/mute broken.... shit like that...
I'd enjoy the hell out of it....
I should be a professional dick.... :icon_razz:

That might be worth a plane flight... Steinberg vs The Dick Squad... err, I mean checking out Thonex's Art Vista booth. :D
I am looking forward to hearing that stuff.
Well as their neighbor, people are probably going to wonder why you are still using Nuendo 3.1.
That is going to be interesting.

Now that is something I would love to see them explain easily... :eusa_think:
Why is a well known long term Nuendo power user , demoing his latest and greatest on a 3 year old version of their DAW application ?
Reminds me of a few years back at a local trade show where I was exhibiting having to pull Jedi Mind Tricks demoing systems by using N2 instead of N3 , because the Thumbnail Caching bug was crippling my N3 install during the show...:icon_eek3:

Hey, thats cool!
Go over there and use one of the many known Cubase bugs to crash their computers. Compliments of the paying customers! ;)

He's the guy that developed peer to peer file sharing and ruined the music business and is now trying to make up for it by providing a virtually free sequencer to ease the guilt. Virtually free because he is already a multi-millionaire and doesn't need a job, unlike the guys at Steinberg/Cakewalk et al. Double whammy, no?

Nah, that's unfair - Sony Vegas is great and it's good they've got rid of all those pesky video features out of it.

Someone who's going should put a project that crashes and/or one set up to highlight some of the issues like solo/mute and ask them to load it on their system. You know they'd never allow the like. :rotfl:

Nothing major, just that Mr Franklin is a big fan of Vegas and based GUI of the seed of the Cockos around it.
It's more the Reaperites and their Justin worship that does my tits in. They are forever bringing up "ground breaking" features that are standard in ever DAW and will never admit that anything is ever wrong with the turdship product.
When I first believed the hype, I installed it and was shocked that all the faders - and this is true - CRACKLED when you moved them. Taking Virtual Mixing a step too far. Looped audio burped/farted every time it returned..... this was the amazing Reaper. Plugins crashed it, no completely unconvoluted way to reassign MIDI channels to VSTis. Nowhere near the MIDI remote possibilities that Cubase or even Tracktion has.
Admittedly I believe some of those "features" are now fixed though the silence of the gimp-like Reaperonians about flaws is striking. At every and all stages of development Reaper is perfect. That's the way it is. It's always perfect.
Anyway, this is sounding mentally unhealthy. I'll leave it at that.

Hey Cap,
Its cool to voice you personal experience with it, even tho I do not not personally agree , or have I experienced many portions of it.
All the gripes are valid from your personal perspective, but when was the last time you actually looked at it.. ?
The ground breaking features it has are not those already in other DAW's, but those that other DAW's got caught with their pants around their ankles not having IMO. Unlimited Free Routing is one, the Multi Processing engine is another.., and sure he is playing catch up, and I hope he rips every good feature from all the other DAW's in the process, and combines them into a killer app.
Its not like devs borrowing features from other DAW's is exactly rare.., i.e: PT8's multi take audio lane editor has been ripped directly off Cubendo..
One quick point re the looping farp, I may not have been the first, but I brought it Justins attention while doing my x-scaling shoot out last year, within 15 minutes I had a response with some settings to try and narrow down the issue, with in an hour we had narrowed down what was needed to resolve it. The next day I had a beta build with it resolved, which was then made available publicly a few days later..
BTW: I have seen more than one complaint about looping glitches in Cubendo as well..
Re the Reaperonians, sure but the same can be said about the Cakwalkians, not to mention the thinly veiled shills at the "official" cubase forums. I'll take the community spirit , due and mutual respect displayed in both directions , over the absolute opposite displayed by most other communities/developers online , any day.
I for one applaud the development model of Reaper, and sincerely hope it pokes Steinberg and some other devs right where it hurts..
If that makes me a Reaperonian.., then so be it..
:009:
Cap,
I was going to say the same kind of thing as Vin.
While I agree the clip based editing is rather primative (very hard to edit individual tracks ala PT and Nuendo), there is a lot it does.
The fact that when a bug is reported, there is a fix with in a week, if not days even with in 24 hours that resolves it.
With a bug like video truncation and solo/mute lasts for over a year and a half and SB's response is "it is not the tools, it is the user" and "users have to deal with it", is kind of retarded.
Kind of, well it is retarded.
We know that the resources to fix these problems have been diverted to Cubase 5 (the flagship) and Squeal 2.

Squeal 2, that one is named after the sound most of us make after realising we are about to be bent over without permission again.. :D
I have a request for Thonex,
Can you please take a shot of the Steinberg booth for me, I need it to add to my Taffy and Friends Vacation scrapbook .., you know the one. :eusa_whistle:
Thanks Mate..
Hope the show is going well for you.., and please make sure the vid camera is rolling if/when Lex pays a visit to the Steinberg booth.. :rotfl:

Well, there are people who use Reaper, and then there are the Reaperonians. The latter are newbies who gleefully lead other newbies astray with their complete lack of knowledge of all other DAWs, waxing lyrical about the keycommand-tied workflow and generic features as if they are USPs. If you learn the keycommands of any DAW you have a great workflow, it's just that others have GUI options too.
But yes, I do agree that the development model is exciting (and at the same time vulnerable because of the reliance on one man) and I'd probably hold my weesht if Cockos put some banner ads in Gearslutz or kvr et al from time to time to fund the community rather than just encouraging it to be used as a free marketing tool. It would make the eager-beavers easier to stomach. ;)
So I retract any comment that could be construed as being a bit wrong, but leave them there for posterity and with the caveat that I'd had a couple of scoops at the time.

From my understanding there are a couple more devs involved apart from Justin, don't know the exact detail tho..
