View Full Version : Exporting System Link Audio

Okay, I've done some searching and haven't found an answer in the docs about this, so here goes:

I have two computers in studio A connected via system link. I want to use the second computer for additional VSTis, but I want to know if there is a way to export that audio to the second computer without going through the mixer (Tascam FW-1884) or using a digital output. The composition that I'm trying to do this for has a variable tempo track, so a simple export from the second machine won't cut it (unless, of course, I re-create the tempo track on the second computer).

The problem here is that the way things are set up, I have one digital input coming from Tonelab, and another coming from Mini-Me, and the FW-1884 has only the two digital inputs. I don't want to be hassling around with repatching cables, and that only leaves me with two digital outputs from the FW-1884, one of which is used for the system link.

As far as I can find out, there is no way to do what I want without either re-patching, or using the analog output from the second computer sound card. The sound card in computer two has only a co-axial S/PDIF interface (Echo MiaMIDI).

If there is anyone who knows of a way to do this without simply throwing money at the problem, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

The least expensive would be to just export the tempo track on the host and import it on the second system, then render/export audio there and transfer over. Tempo track transfers work quite well so I wouldn't hesitate to do that vs. repatching I/O.

If you run audio into the host and export there, it will be realtime. It's a bit of a toss up, depending on what works best for your workflow preference here.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling I would be going this route, but I figured I'd check with those who might have more experience than I in such matters.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.
