Hi all,

Would any kind and gracious sole here in this wee lil forum be able to tell me if there is some way to set what would be flags on MIDI and/or audio parts in the arrange window in order to know where certain sections begin in a piece of music, instead of having to "cut" a part up?

I hope I've made the question clear enough, if not I will try again.

Thank you all

what... like markers? Well... you have the marker track that can also show regions. You can also create a dummy midi track and use that to cut up and name.

To be honest... I'm not sure I'm following you.

Cheers,

Thanks for replying Thonex.

I understand the marker track but I guess what I'm asking for is "labels" that I can place anywhere on a part as sort of an identifier to show where something begins without having some sort of overall marker type function.

Each part is labelled once at the very beginning but what I'd like is to be able to put any number of labels throughout any part so where a lead solo begins you will see the label there or where multiple parts together commence a new section I can pick which one will have the label, again without needing a marker or without having to cut-up the display.

I use Arranger Track events instead of markers, they are colourful and chunky and you can clearly see different sections of the track at all timess with them when you use the Split project window.

You can overlap them n stuff and give them labels, and they are also good for the purpose they were made for - rearranging on the fly.

Either works for section identifiers, but having flags/markers tied to audio or midi tracks and events is something I asked for about 2 years ago. It would be great for post, or most anything to label alternate clips, specific notes for a track that aren't relevant to other tracks, etc. The marker and arrange tracks get cluttered too quickly for that use, but work great for most everything else.

But, no there is no way to do that specifically currently. The only other rough and dirty approach might be to create a dummy midi track and draw in blank clips, naming them to use as track or folder markers.

Hi KDM,

Thats the thing about Folder Tracks though, they have no function other than as a container, to begin with it would be good if you could make them transparent on the page. This would allow for "vertical" organisation.

Secondly, having labels inside for the objects in a folder track would be enough to achieve what I'm asking but as well as for the parts themselves would be a bonus.

About the arranger track, I was surprised you had only the option to have A,B etc and not your own names but I suppose that's in line with theory anyhow.

I will save my comments on the marker track for another thread.

Regards all

Folders are really useful for record arming/listen enabling etc. a whole load of tracks at once. They are also great for space saving in the Project window, so I would say that they are a little bit more than just a container.

You name them in the Info Bar just like any other event.

Yes you can. So on the Arrange track after you have your sections (I typically draw a section for chorus, verse, intro, bridge because that's standard for typical hiphop) with the arranger track selected, the info bar to the left will have sections A,B,C,D... you must hold alt plus click on the A,B,C,D in order to rename it to chorus, verse, intro, bridge. Afterwards you can set the number of repeats and create the chain to play. I have that helps.
