What features does it have that you need that aren't in Cubase?

The awesome new automation system. But I think Cubase 5 might be getting a little bit of that obviously.

Is that 1 feature really worth the extra dosh?

It was free, or I would have spent a lot less on the C4 variety. (And no, it's not a pirated version. The barter system is alive and well in Nashville.:))

Actually the program not being called Cubase is worth every extra penny. :)

Yes, the new automation system is worth it. You will never wanna go back to the old way.

Ah, another good reason (among many, and as if I needed one) not to upgrade. :D
Does the feature work as advertised or are parts of it broken? :chin:

It still says Stone Mountain, which is just as bad if not worse. ;)

hahahahaha. If you're[not you specifically] an intern at Dark Horse, yes.

I use Nuendo.
The performance/feature gap is why I bought in originally.
The gap for audio has narrowed since.
Still, the name and the visual depth are better...
Nuendo is embossed and shadowed where Cubase is flat. ;)

+1 Feature Gap. I started with Nuendo 2.
+1 I wanted the "do everything" "flagship" that would ALWAYS include everything. I did not want to be concerned about whether or not some feature that I may need was available in the product level I was using.

I bought Nuendo 2 when it first came out because it had PDC, and Cubase SX2 was still unannounced.
Nuendo 2 was indeed touted as the flagship, of which all other Steinberg seqs would be subsets. There was even an offer later for Cubase SX2 users to upgrade to Nuendo 2.
The Nuendo Post Production marketing and development emphasis really got going with Version 3, but it was still the mothership.
The Nuendo 4/NEK arrangement (which Sound on Sound called "a little arse about face") was generally a curious embarrassment to Steinberg, which means they have a good chance of repeating it.

Bill

And yes, so far for me it is just audio and midi. None of this in conjunction with a video of any kind in a "post" setting.
And unless this is some kind of deal buster for POST people, I hope Steinberg drops that NEK business.

Nuendo 3.2 for audio + midi here.
I bought N4 + NEK (grace upgrade) at release but gonna wait for update 4.5.1 before installing it (heard it will be presented at NAMM).
They are going to be showing Nuendo V4 FIXED at NAMM?
So they are advertising that Nuendo 4 works now? :icon_eek3:
Hmmm.

Well if they show it fixed at NAMM and we have to wait another 6 months that will suck. Of course this is all conjecture at this point.

You'll probably find N4.5.1 is simply the verion with the added features for the the Deadendo synchroniser.., it will not have any other fixes above Cubase 4.5.2.. :-(

There's no way it will be fixed, not doing so is how they get the Lemmings to buy the next release. :icon_rolleyes::D

It will be interesting on a kind of masochistic note to see how 4.5 works, if and when it is released. I have updated to 4.2 twice, and then rolled back, because of all the MIDI problems that it caused. There are still problems with 4.1, but I can just about work round them.

Just Audio here too. Never go anywhere near MIDI - it is a 4-letter word, and I am not a musician so cannot play a note either & just don't need it.
FWIW - I do not record either, except for occasional overdubbing as needed.
Just Mixing, Mastering & Post.

Yes, the new automation system is worth it. You will never wanna go back to the old way.
Not to mention the copy/paste/move for plugins, and the almost freely routable groups. I say almost freely routable because you can do anything but create feedback loops with them. I wanted to be able to create feedback loops. The EQ is so much better than earlier versions, and the new plugins I've tried in general also sound better or work better.
They just broke some big time stuff like solo/mute, some midi, (others fill in here please). Including Nuendo 2 and ever since with having a rough track record, I still hope the folks at Steinberg get it right. This software is generally laid out and working more along the lines of the way I think. That makes it easier to use for me.
Not trying to move the thread OT, but it does bear mentioning some of the high points of version 4, even though the bugs trump or nearly trump the high points. A case of damned if you do and damned if you don't, but if you haven't tried version 4 you should probably wait because the good points claw at you enough to make you keep coming back to it to try and work around the bad.

C4 does all you mention other than automation.
Also, I'm talking about not using Nuendo for Post and just for audio/MIDI.

Just made a phonecall with my local distributer who told me that and which is in LA now. Obviously it will take another 2 or 3 months before the 4.5.1 update will be released... Sorry for the confusion. Anybody knows if the solo/mute bug in Cubase 5 is completely solved? If that's the case Steinberg should give Nuendo 4 users a "Cubase 5 for users of Nuendo 4" license for free. Now I feel like I bought the N4 update for nothing (defenitely the case if the price for updating N3>N5 / N4>N5 will be the same).

NUENDO4 for surround and film post but without the NEK since we have
Cubase5 for those functions.

Just audio here as I do film/tv post.
(As a hobby I sometimes make some music and end up using some midi doing that. But as it is not what pays for my copy of Nuendo I say just audio.)
