Yeah my little home PC is a HP something. SP3 got me a "you'll never reboot in this town son" attitude from the PC. Rolled back to SP2.

It's because of an OEM Intel driver included in SP3 which is of course incompatible with HP+AMD hardware. But as the driver is enabled by default, if you dont know how to kill it when installing SP3 it's a heap of trouble.

I cant be bothered tinkering with the home PC, so XP will stay SP2 for the time being.
