This is something I've wanted for years and it frustrates me to no end. Let's say I mix multichannel drums using Kontakt. I have , vsti, multiple vsti outputs, Group channels, fx channels, inserts/sends. Why oh why can I not easily save this whole set of things out and load it up completely intact as a preset in another project? I am aware of track presets and instrument tracks, but these are for individual tracks, not multitimbral or have multiple outputs, etc.

It's a pain in the ass trying to recreate a complex signal chain with vstis and with all inserts etc loaded, especially since Save Selected Channels is broken for me most of the time as it has been for many Nuendo versions. Basically half the time when I save something out and try to load it back in it will give me a channel mismatch error, even though I know it shouldn't and I did it correctly. Maybe this might happen when a project has inserts draggged around, a mono channel insert dragged to a stereo channel? Maybe.

Anyway it would be great with a Tracks Preset type feature where it would load up a group of unrelated things--groups, audio tracks, vstis, inserts/sends, fx channels--and remember the routing. If anyone knows a way to do this let me know, if I am missing something. Seems a simple thing a modern DAW should be able to do.

Is there another DAW that can do this? this is seriously something I would almost switch for as I waste a lot of time recreating the wheel project to project when I know I particular drum sound or something I did in one thing would work in another.

Why not just have yourself a template project that contains a folder full of all these cool type of things you do and then just open it up when you need to use that feature and drag it into the project? You can have the sounds loaded but without the samples in Kontakt if you need to preserve ram on the Kontakt end of the template.

You can do this in PT - Import session data - but actually setting up multi-timbral VSTi's in PT is such a PITA that it would be pretty much a zero gain situation in the end. I like PT for a lot of stuff, but not VSTi use!

I have been hounding SB to include an Import Session Data feature for Nuendo for years now, a little while ago I did a survey on it so hopefully it is in the pipeline for Nuendo....

Can you use export selected tracks? This works with group channels etc......but since the VSTi returns 'belong' to the instrument loaded in the rack they probably wont be included :(

I've been behind you in that as well. In my world, you can't live without it. The time it takes to export and import, open close ect.

Plus, Import session data has extended features like, match tracks, fader automation, pan and plugin automation, regions, tracks names, comments, ect that are all users determined.

It is a massive time saver when you are on a deadline, like I am, and multiple editors are working on 2 shows at one time and you need to get your tracks in.

I doubt it is something that SB can create easily. Not without a complete rewrite of the software again.

In PT you can simply setup template projects with your favorite mulit-out instrument (with loaded presets), with output assignments, busses/fx and midi tracks and just import that into a new PT session. Done. Instant drum tracks, or whatever you need.

Yeah, PT's VSTi handling isn't as straightforward as Nuendo's, but imo, it is more flexible (such as actually being able to save instrument presets and find them again).

I'm setting up my 256 track template in PT and finding quite a few shortcuts that I never had in Nuendo. That will be my base template, but I can still import part of it into another project if needed - pretty cool.

Not to belabor the advantages of PT for those that have no interest, but for anyone that does, here's a bonus for Kontakt users:

Say you want 4 stereo outs, but also want mono outs. In Nuendo/VST, it's a bit of a pain to setup multiple Kontakt dlls for different output configs. In PT, just setup the output and save it as an RTAS preset (or save your mutli with output assignments as an RTAS preset). Mono outs can be accessed by mono Aux busses, so you have access to all 64 with each instance of Kontakt loaded (K4 here). Great for separating guitars going to a mono amp/sim from a Symphobia pad.

Then just save it to some template folder (doesn't have to be a template session) and import the relevant instrument, tracks and auxes to any session where you need it.

Reaper does that pretty well. Select the tracks and save a template and it stores everything pretty much.
