Found this forum via the VSplanet forum...never have registered at the Cubase net forum..i guess there have been some annoyances there?

I'm using Cubase on a Mac G5, 2.0 dual. My system and apps are on their own drive, nothing else.

I record to an external SATA setup via a Seritek eSata pci card into which a Seritek 2 drive SATA box is plugged. These two drives are mirrored in RAID. It's a solid setup and is working fine.

I'm very new to Cubase, two weeks. When I first started using it I would start a project and assign the project to a folder on the SATA drive..everything was cool

Now, when I open a project, add a track etc..I go to name it and do a quick save. When I hit "save" I get an error message that says..

"The project could not be saved, because: The file/folder could not be found at this location. No new project could be created."

The "project is actually on the screen and I can record to it but it won't save.

The first time this happened..i made a new project and recorded a few tracks..time for bed and I went to save it, couldn't save it...I punched myself in the side of the head, slept my computer, went to bed...never could save the work.

This problem hasn't gone away. I'm wondering If clicked on something that is directing Cubase to another folder or drive for new projects??

Any help, much appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

It's POSSIBLE but not necessarily true that you COULD have saved all your audio files in one folder and now Cubase is confused about what to call things in the new saving process.

Take a look at this other recent topic, a glass of water and call to morrow whether it helped or not ;)

Try these things. Reset the project folder. Or save as to a new location. Or archive out the whole project to a different location.

I'll try those things and thanks...

Why is this happening?

Is this a common issue in Cubase?

As for protocall..is there a proper/formal way to start a project that will avoid this?

Hard to say. THe proper way to start a new project is to iniate a New Project. It will ask you where to save the project. This will make all the folder hierarchies (audio folder etc). The new project will open on screen but the project file itself is not saved until you hit save and name it.

So you are working off external disks in OS X? You might want to check your permissions on those disks. I know OS X can get kind of funky sometimes in that respect.

Always start all projects by saving a proper project file. Been there, done that ... Just make a temporary name for the project until you get a better idea.

But to be honest, I can't recall having been denied to save the project in Cubase like that, ever?

But I had the honor to fight with first generation iMacs right after Y2K ... they were a bunch of funky beasts ...
