Heres a sneak peak at the possible Protools Hardware that will be released this week..

Plenty of speculation over at G.S that this is a hoax, I have a feeling it isn't.. :-)
We'll know soon enough I suspect.

$999 with the native HD software..... maybe not, but who knows? ;)
I already have an HD link adapter in my lynx box - so if I could drop 1k for a single card and the HD native SW - and use it for tracking when working with assistants and hands on producers who only know PT - then I would do it. But if there is no option for me to just get a single card with no interface in the 'package' I prolly won't bother...
Three new boxes and "heat" briefly detailed here. (http://www.protoolerblog.com/2010/08/17/major-news-from-avid-hd-io-hd-omni-hd-madi-and-heat/)
According to that site, $2995 for Omni, $3995 for HD I/O and $4995 for MADI. Assuming PT Omni software has the DV toolkit, track unlimited, OMF, etc, *and* works as well as other native apps (ADC works, RTAS doesn't suck, etc) - it competes with a Nuendo/RME combo. If not, it's still pricey by comparison.
MADI sits above RME and SSL in price, but it's Avid, so starting to look like an expansion of the old model.
$495 for "Heat" - a saturation add-on (not plugin) seems quite expensive for something that probably sounds like every other sat plugin, many of which are free since the concept in digital form really doesn't sound that great to begin with, at least imo.
Now on Sweetwater's site (http://www.sweetwater.com/c546--Pro_Tools_HD_Interfaces/popular/pn1)

So its another overpriced interface for HD? I guess an HD 1 with the omni will only set you back what 6K now instead of 10k?
Or did I miss something?
There are implications that the software runs "native" - i.e. without dsp from the Omni interface, but the blog seems to indicate that isn't the case - it's just another iteration of the HD concept, a little lower price than HD1.
Seems like more of the same in a different package to me. Less expensive options to do pretty much everything in the new lineup. Maybe some info is missing, but it certainly seems like Avid/Digi didn't get the message. Could actually be good news for Nuendo, if Steinberg gets their message. Not holding my breath on either account.
Certainly appears to just be another interface, for which you will need a core card - still looking at $5k for HD at that rate, and way underpowered to do much more than edit.

underwhelmed.
If this is the hush hush big news, Avid have egg all over their face.
There must be more?
You guys missed the PT 8.1 update

Did I miss something in the 8.1 update info? Doesn't say much more than adding support for the Omni series interfaces and EOSS for XP, Leopard, etc. Asked a Sweetwater rep and while he didn't know for sure, he is thinking these are just interfaces for existing HD.

Good grief, is that what all the secrecy and sackings were about, some stripped back new interfaces for the exisiting PTHD systems ?
No new DSP cards, no improvement to the native platform.., Man, I think these guys have been sipping St Steves Kool Ade
Steinberg just got handed a pass..

Totally agree. Unless they also add some less expensive Core (dsp) card I fail to see the appeal. Granted, there may be some that want exactly what it provides, but at that price point why buy Avid's own pre's instead of outboard, for example....
Steinberg just got handed a pass..
Sure did. Let's see if they can capitalize on it....

I think Digi still have a few cards to play..
Spotted at Sweetwater before it was amended
"The Pro Tools 8.1 software release that provides support for the new I/Os to Pro Tools|HD systems, as well as the new Pro Tools|HD Native hardware. It comes with an enhanced I/O setup, support for the HEAT add-on option, and bug fixes. Pro Tools 8.1 will not support Pro Tools LE, M-Powered or M-Powered Essential."
Link is Here (http://www.sweetwater.com/feature/avid_2010/)
Go Sweetwater , if you guys were a boat, you would be sunk my now.... LOL
There has been a lot of discussion about the new connector on the back, my bet is that there are some new cards coming and this is just a preliminary release to appease the panic from existing HD owners that their farm is just about to be woth a lot less... :-)

Looks like they removed the HD Native line and that it won't support LE or Mpowered.

I am reading in over at the DUC, and that Brad dude that got canned last week for the initial leak is on there sounding off like a bloody salesman again, full on, trying to convince the punters there just how good Omni is , and hinting that there is more to come, its all starting to smell a little fishy to me.
I think this new leak has just caused the shite to hit the fan again tho, Man, I'd love to see what the walls are looking like at SW HQ... LOL !!
