Hello everyone,

I am having a lot of issues since I installed Nuendo 5 on my system. I posted this over there:
http://forum.nuendo.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=22819

Just wanted to clue you all in here too so you can follow if you like.
Part of it seems related to eLicenser, which is current and the Cubase performance hit/stability since the installation of Nuendo I haven't a clue why. Maybe it is related somehow.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. I'm going to give it a day to see if anything comes about and if not, I have to re-image my system back to before the N5 installation so I can keep current projects moving.

I had a series of appcrash and werfault errors after installing the N5 demo on a system with C5 on it. I was running three dongles: one with C5, one with N4, one with N5. I suspected eLicenser issues as well, mainly because of its new reliance on .NET, and the errors were accompanied by the Visual Studio debugger opening every time... Errors upon cubendo installs and updates as well, as if Steinberg's installer itself was at least partially responsible for the problem.
Long story short: I uninstalled/deleted everything related to the eLicenser and old leftover Syncrosoft components, including registry references.
Then I uninstalled Visual Studio as well as the latest "Microsoft .NET Framework v4 Client" update released at the end of June.
Then I reinstalled the new July eLicenser... and the problems went away.

No matter what, it seems like a good idea to remove all prior Syncrosoft references and components to start with a clean slate when installing the new eLicenser. New framework, new name, new website, new company... new issues.

Hi Terry,

I used cc cleaner and removed all syncrosoft/eLicenser register entries, then reinstalled. Then XP wouldn't load drivers for the keys si I had to do it manually.

Fired up cubase with only the Cubase dongle plugged in, still got the Reverence license error, loaded the project with the serious error if adjusting the crossfade. Still pops up with errors:

Cubase performance utterly poor, even with both dongles plugged in.

I am now restoring the image I made before the N5 installation to get back to work.

Still having issues, Tom?

I've installed Nuendo 5 alongside Cubase 5 in XP, Vista 32, and Win7/64... C5/N5 are performing similarly well for me when sharing the same OS.

A lot of the elicenser issues on XP are due to .Net versions and associated.

Also not all licence key firmware is the same - i.e Retail/SRC so there are variations there that need to be navigated.

I had an N5 install on a clients system that has both N3.2 and N4 installed , simply hang and crash at every attempt as soon as it hit the elicenser install until I removed all versions of .Net except for the required V2. All versions above V2 would crash the install. PITA.

Re the Reverance issue with C5, thats because its not finding the Nuendo licence for the specific Surround version of Reverence that is installed with Nuendo and is obviously sitting in a common shared folder between C5/N5

Hi Terry, Vin,

I sorted it, but not entirely sure how. The crossfade was a bug in Cubase 5.1/ 01 (can't remember the exact version). I wound up reverting back to my original setup. Got through the session I needed to then I gave it a whirl again. Here's what I did:

I rolled back the system via a drive image using True Image Home.
1st thing I did was go to the crossfade that was causing one type of error and guess what, it is a bug in Cubase 5.1 I never came across. But I did not get all these DCOM errors.
---Repro: Create 4 audio tracks inside a folder track.
Import audio file
Copy it so you have 8 (4 crossfading 4)
select the 4 tale ends INCLUDING the folder and adjust the lead side of the crossfade
Error
---

Anyway, getting back to the problems. I installed Cubase 5.5 . Everything was fine, crossfading doesn't error anymore (but I noticed something that I will get to in a moment in a new thread)<- this is the crossfade behaviour is now different. When you pull crossfades apart, the tail of the first and lead in of the second audio that was previously crossfaded changes to fade ins and fade outs. and performance is fine, worked on a project for an hour. Then felt brave and installed Nuendo 5 NEK and the 5.1 Nuendo update. Cubase performance is the same, great, and Nuendo seems OK (doesn't crash) based on 1/2 hour messin around.

So far I can only guess it was the crossfade error that was causing the slew of elicenser errors, or I am using 6.0.2.7025 eLicenser version over 6.0.2.7032 .

I still don't understand the performance hit that happened when I installed Nuendo 5 the 1st time. Perhaps an incompatibility with both the above elicensers until I installed Cubase 5.5

To add:

The difference between the time I was having the problems to where I am today is:
I updated Cubase to 5.5
Didn't install the latest elicenser that is newer than the Cubase 5.5 and Nuendo 5.01 elicenser installers packaged with them.
I had checked the .net version and I am on 2. I think I had read it in one of your earlier posts, Vin, and had checked it when I was experiencing the problems.

I had some sessions yesterday, new clientele, new template, that I used solely Nuendo 5.01 on and everything was fine. I did, however, uncover a new bug that I never came across it before when making the templates for the session. Copying channel settings in Cubase 5.5 or Nuendo5.01 with a built-in compressor that has sidechain. I used the mixer copy and paste buttons and this breaks side chain routing. I added it here in Cubendo's Bug Base:

http://www.cubendo.com/project.php?issueid=12

So, Things seem fine for now. I am not deep at all into N5 but I'm looking forward to the new features. Yesterdays work was just a slew of voiceover. I think I have convinced myself to finish up projects started in Cubase will be finished in Cubase because there is a fair amount of work rolling through that I can begin a bunch of new projects in Nuendo so I don't have to worry about problems, which may just be an unjustified fear to be honest.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any consistency to the issues being thrown up related to the elicenser on XP/XPx64 as I noted on Dedrics other thread..

For those that missed it..,

Dedric,

I think you are right that there is something seriously screwy with N5/C5.5 on XP on some systems.

There doesn't seem to be any consistency unfortunately, so of course HQ will just fob it off as being systematic. I personally had issues on numerous XP configs. I have an issue with a client at the moment with 2 systems on XPx64 , the single Quad updates to C5.5 and he is loving the new MB features, on the Dual Quad all Hell breaks loose after installing C5.5 with the new elicencer , Cubase firing up with large portions of GUI missing on the initial project manager, menu corruption, instability, crashes, absolutely unworkable. Identical Vid cards on both so its not vid card related. C5.5 on Win7 x64 on the Dual Quad is fine, but there are other issues associated with Win7 on the earlier hardware with ACPI , so its just a cluster at the moment....
