View Full Version : BUG: Defaults.xml and MIDI Key Ed. - The raster shifts upwards over time

When Cubase is launched for the first time, and lower register MIDI data is recorded, the MIDI Key Ed. will easily display those notes when opened. Over time this changes, and after lower register MIDI data is recorded, the MIDI Key Ed. will not display those notes by default; the raster is not in the same place as it was originally, and the user is forced to scroll to see those notes.

Here is the repro:

Trah prefs; delete C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 5_64

Launch Cubase; let it do it's thing, and click "already reg" when prompted. Do not do anything - do not set any configurations, do not put aything to "AOT", do not show the info pane in the Key Ed., etc.

Here are the steps:

1) New project (any dir)
2) Maximize window
3) Create MIDI ch (no routing necessary)
4) Record, on MIDI kybd, press note towards bottom of register, in this case I have used C0
5) Stop transport
6) Open MIDI Key ed
7) Expand raster using vert. zoom at bottom right, so that the name of the MIDI note is just visible on the MIDI note itself - at this point, you should be seeing this:

At this point, the MIDI Key Ed. raster is as far down as it will go, and further downward scrolling is not possible; note (in both my photo and your MIDI Key Ed.) that the vertical scroll bar on the right is all the way down, and the left verticle Cubase kbd shows C-2. So, far all is well.

8) Close Cubase, choosing not to save project
9) Launch Cubase, and repeat steps 1 through 6 (step 7 is of course not necessary)

Upon opening the MIDI Key ed this time (now the 2nd time Cubase has been launched after trashing the prefs), it still should look the same. Now close Cubase, relaunch again, and repeat steps 1 - 6. Keep doing this, recording MIDI note C0 every time, and then closing and relaunching Cubase each time. When you get to the 4th or 5th re-launch, the MIDI Key Ed will not be scrolled all the way down, and C-2 on the left verticle Cubase kbd will no longer be visible. By the tenth time, C-1 on the left verticle Cubase kbd will no longer be visible. Do this enough times (took 17 here), and the MIDI note of C0 will no longer be visible.

Deleting defaults.xml solves this - but only temporarily.

I understand this is quite time consuming, so if no other forum members wish to atempt this, I will understand. Tho, I am curious to see if anyone else (either C or N) sees this. I posted this on C.net, and asked that Chris, or someone else from SB, or the beta team check this out. Brian, if you are reading this, can you either check this, and/or pass this along?

Thank you.
