Hey all,
I fiddled around a bit with the codec settings of several video programs and decided to share my findings: http://bit.ly/bJ0fep
This tutorial works for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Hey Vin!
Just saw your reply now, thanks mate!
I just released part 2 of the tutorial since some people seem to have problems
with input formats and Avidemux. Therefore I checked out Handbrake and wrote
another tutorial for it:

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks Stevie!
Hello all. I've just upgraded to C6 from C4 and and coming to grips with the new video engine. I've tried the suggestions in Stevie's excellent tutorial above however while the file plays fine in quicktime, within cubase it's jerky... More specifically the bottom half of the image is jerky. I also tried encoding with photo jpeg in Mpeg Streamclip with the same result. I've only just started playing with codecs and handbrake settings but any suggestions to those that have seen this would be great. My card is a Nvidia quadro nvs 440
disclaimer, I'm still on xp64
Thanks - Brett

C6 should work in xp but I don't thinks its officially supported. Don't know if it is worth your while testing W7, or if you even can due to other considerations, but I'd work towards getting on W7 nevertheless. I'm all for hanging on to what works.... I'm only now to the point my office computer is going to have to be ditching its Windows 2000 o/s!
Good luck, wish could be more direct help.

Thanks Paul. Trial and error came to the rescue. Handbrake was encoding at max res at 1024 x 576. However, I was converting from a DVD's video-ts file which is at 720 across. Selecting Anamorphic=none and preserving aspect ratio with an encode at 720 x 400 worked a treat. Despite the fact that the cpu wasn't even moving, obviously my computer / os / C6 can't handle 1024 across.
