Cross post with n.com - but think its worth putting here as well.

I don't know why I've never tried this earlier. BUT.
Yesterday visiting a video post house here in sydney I noticed a designer running 2 copies of aftereffects on the same mac. He'd discovered it by accident - he had made a duplicate of the AE application file.
So this morning, I duplicated the N4.3 application file (called it Nuendo Copy 2) and booted it up with the first copy of nuendo already running.
They both work together great - no conflicts on the MC control.
and here's the kicker - they can sync to each other using system link! (You need the right sound card for this - but its working great using my halo!
This means we CAN have 2 projects open at once, and not need to wait for them to activate / de-activate.
This is huge for copying / pasting between sessions (and beats the bejesus out of having to export track archives for many parts) - and cool for 2 video windows at the same time (one thru black magic, the other on screen, which I've been doing with nuendo + cubase running at the same time on the same machine until now.)

Any other uses people can come up with? I'd say it is ram intensive, but I'm running 16GB as of a week or so ago - and it appears snow leopard does a pretty good job of allocating resources to each copy too!

So there you have it folks. Look forward to trying it on nuendo 5 soon too!

Cheers, Brendan.

Let's hope that SB doesn't disable this hidden feature because of the ELUA.

Let's home they are smart enough to see the benefits to this.

Though, my feeling is that now that they know, they'll disable it in the dongle.

BTW, do you have to have 2 separate sound cards?

Damn - didn't think that they might disable it - I actually doubt they'd know about it before now. :)
And no, if you have the right sound card, (I'm using MH2882 and ULN8) it can all be done with one card (so long as both sessions are at the same sample rate. If they are not, you get them each taking over the sample rate settings, and can run into probs.
Cheers, B.

Hey that's brilliant. I wonder if it could be used to get over the Decklink/QT/64bit problem?

Haha Daryl! Great minds think alike! That is exactly what I posted over at Ncom when I saw brendans post there :)

Actually, it shouldn't be a problem because it resides on the same machine. I don't think the fundamental problem is running two instances in and by itself, but instead being able to use two instances on two computers. Know what I mean.

Of course, Steinberg may have a different opinion about it...

They usually do.

Since it appears the most welcomed immediate benefit is adding another video window in the same machine... I don't think SB will be negatively concerned... They'd be smart to use it to their advantage as a Knowledgebase feature until they figure out a way to enable multiple windows in the same instance of a new version.

Seems to only work on MAC.

Finally. A reason to justify runnng a mac system. <grin>

(walking away with his mac tongue firmly in his cheek)
