I have no luck so far with VST Expression. I have read the manuals and bought the book and Video but it still doesn't help. I also have a sound bank that is not the 16-bit upgrade I paid for but something else164165Click on attachment to enlarge. The player says HALion SO Pro and when I click on the player a moving text line appears at the bottom, it says 32-bit version. In the Halion One folder are files that are called Pro_content.hsb, Pro_set_1.hsb, Pro_set2.hsb, and Pro_set_3.hsb,some GM drums, and Studio_Content.hsb do these files mean something to any of you?
If they are 32-bit would they be better than the 24-bit VEL and xFade which live in a different folder[somewhere]?. I have no external hardware yet so everything must be done on this iMac in Cubase 5, I have a score in the editor that I would like to use playing the VST Expression way,can any of you think of a solution?
Thanks for helping!

I'm going to have a stab at integrating midi expressions in maybe a month or so. What I do with all my current keyswitches, is list them in the track notes, and usually I leave 'notes' open so that whatever track I click on, I immediately see the articulation list. Even with a lot of articulations used in keyswitches, I wind up with well over 200 tracks, so I do often rely on those notes.
Is implementing midi expression really that poorly documented? Rats, I'm not looking forward to that.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the response. I don't think you will have any trouble with implementing the VST Expression. I am an idiot, so it takes me a long time to get the message-I have found the Manuals better than the forums for learning this-the Keith Gemmell book is good, but begins where the manuals stop-so it's time to study.
Cheers, David

They are the monoliths for HALionOne, not HSO.

Thanks midimire for the help. What are monoliths in Cubase-I can't find that word in the Manuals, do you mean literally "standing stones? No, it can't be that, could you be saying that all those things are HALion One sounds? That HALion One folder is what I get when I ask the HALion Symphonic Orchestra's Pro Player to "Locate content" after clicking on the large ball marked"Options". I just tried clicking on the "Program" Button[on the right side of each HALion Player box and I found there a list of Hso instruments. My question is-do you know if these are 32-bit, and if tehy are, will they sound [ function ] better than the 16 or 24 bit sound banks? How can I find these Hso VSTi's if "Locate Content" keeps pointing to the halion One Player? Stupid of me to ask this before asking you if you have a HALion SO in your steinberg Products collection,do you? Do you ever need to use the Expression maps,OEM or user? Do you ever have to use that Locate contents option? And what shows up when you click locate COntents? I do appreciate your helping, sorry if this sounds like an interrogation.

David, open the standalone HSO for setup, click the glowing OPTIONS orb... This window allows you to allocate resources and locate all HSO content.
The ONLY specific file type option you should have after clicking the Locate Content window is "HALion String Edition 2 Content File (.hsb)".
Roam to where you installed the HSO content and select everything in the folder and hit OPEN. That location should remain remembered from then on.
Right click anywhere on the wood grain and scroll down to select "About Content" to confirm everything is loaded and where it should be.
HSO doesn't come in a 32-bit sample version (you're mixing up the sample bit-rate with the application bit-rate, it's a 32-bit application).
I think I covered this in another thread response post a couple weeks ago, but nevertheless, HSO Retail full blown provides 24-bit samples.
The $99 version that comes with C5 has 16-bit samples (otherwise the sounds themselves are identical).
One cool thing, you can install the latest retail HSO upgrade for the player... v1.5.0.592
I keep forgetting you're on a Mac... but the standalone option window should provide the same format to find the content you need.
The documentation for this is poor... there were tons of lost HSO users a year ago when C5 was released.
It takes some independent investigation to figure it out.

Thanks for the reply, sorry if my bump was from the side-but you wrote each time "We'll get you up to speed-stick around"-so I have and from the Manuals have already used the tiny arrow in the VST Instrument window to activate all the HSO files-and today when I looked they had been added to the mediabay see att."Mediabay" but I have somehow managed to get a piano sound bank in the Violin and Celli arrange tracks-how does one switch instruments on a track? see att. "Solo Violin" and once I manage to get the violin there how do I get the VST Expression choices to show up in the arrange window. The solo Violin[marked 'acoustic grand piano] [see att.]pops back up to the top most track-what am I doing wrong to not be able to drag that MIDI file down one track? I would guess it has something to do with track types and HALion S O player files.
The manual says to open the show symbols by opening the Inspector using the left most button of 4, see att "show symbols button" as you can see I have 5 buttons there and the show button is leftmost, OK, I jst looked at the score and of course the symbols are there-it may even say so in the Manual and my above question about the symbols in arrange is moot I assume and there can be no score symbols in arrange-right?
i don't mean to be greedy, and I appreciate your taking time to help the hopeless so what do you suggest now? there is a screenshot below under the ?, but you probably knew that already.

Hi Paul, How is your midi expression working out? Do you know what the objects in the prefs under HALion SO are? They are zipped it appears and all are named similarly, for example"OB66E6F2.bin" could these be the missing 5 Volumes of content for VST Expression? Or are they the Orchestral sounds I haven't been able to find yet? Do you have the 5 Volumes of the"VST Sound Collection"? According to the online knowledge base they are ''hidden' and one must have the"folder options configered to show hidden system files". I have no idea on a Mac where this should take place-it must be a normal function on PC, but the search abilities on a Mac seem not to include "*.vstpreset". I did find the HALion One sounds, and the 16-bit HSO files but the Orchestra Instrument SOunds for HALion SO seem to be there somewhere, I would like to get started putting the samples in folders that describe the contents-all string pp's, all string Pizz's,etc. but I must locate them first in the system. I remember thinking wow!- a big sample library to use. But no luck in finding info on these problems, I hope your install has everything in place.
