My AMT8 became obsolete so I brought the E-MU xMidi 2x2 interface. Although dev mgr says it was working I got the message ‘Driver installed but not yet started’. At first I thought it was an E-MU problem so I exchanged it for an M-Audio Midisport 2X2. Same problem! I checked on the web & this seems to be a major issue!

So far I have re-installed PNP Software Enumerator & installed a new swenum file, changed the soundcard to a different slot, changed my computer form ACPI to Standard, uninstalled soundcard (RME 9652) & midisport numerous times but nothing has worked. I think the issue is that the soundcard is sharing the same IRQ as my USB but I can’t change the IRQ setting in dev mgr, this is why I changed to Standard PC instead of ACPI but this didn’t work either!

I’ve been as this for 4 days now & I really hope someone out there has a remedy for this other than re-installing XP which I’m loathe to do as others have said even this hasn’t worked!

Asus P6T SE - i7 920 2.66Ghz - Noctua NH-U12P Heatsink & Fan - 3GB OCZ Platinum - Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 512mb - 3x WD Caviar Black 640GB - OCZ StealthStream 700W PSU - Windows XP SP3 -

OT, aren't you supposed to re-install Windows if switching from ACPI?

Did you try the Emulated ports for the MIDISport?

OOOPS used to work, is about the ten entry limit for the registry, has exactly these symptoms. I will search for it....

OK found it http://www.rme-audio.de/en_support_techinfo.php?page=content/support/en_support_faq_10entryd

Thanks V for the link...

Bizarrely i managed to get my AMT8 working again, since building my i7 the AMT8 would crash Nuendo on boot, only by turning off the AMT8 would N4 boot so i thought i needed a new midi interface, that's when all the driver troubles started.

As a last resort i uninstalled the M-Audio & tried again with the AMT, now it works great & doesn't crash N4 even though i'm using the same old drivers???

Guru, i switched to Standard PC mode & back to ACPI with no problems & the M-Audio didn't have any emulated ports, i tried moving midi enabler folder out of the Nuendo folder & that didn't seem to do anything...

It's changed to the enableemulated file instead of the port filter one.

You can switch modes and all appears well, but to do it right, it should be done at OS install from all I've read.

GREAT!!!
Odd too, but who cares.
Don't worry about the acpi/standardPC stuff.....It is safer to do with a reinstall, but if it works it's fine.

Got the AMT8 working & Nuendo sees it but I also have Pro Tools LE 8.01 & it won't see the AMT8... Uninstalled the AMT & re-installed the Midisport but same problem with the driver! Tried the RME fix but it didn't work...

Had to reinstall XP, now everything's working.

Can't believe there isn't a fix for the driver not started issue, oh well...
