Hi!
I am contemplating replacing my Digi 002 with a new interface. Most likely I will end up with a firewire interface. While looking about, I am seeing a lot of W7x64 installs that use firewire audio interfaces requiring the user to change the firewire/ie1394 driver to the "legacy" driver. Are there pros and cons to the legacy driver versus a properly written driver for the new spec ( http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/connect/1394_Windows7.mspx )? Is this common with most audio interfaces right now? I am assuming devs will eventually produce proper, new spec drivers.. yes?

I have a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 board with TI 1394 chipset; does that make any difference? If I am looking to stay in the $1000 or under range, and require min 8in, 8out analogue (additional digital I/O would be nice, but not necessary); pre's on it would be cool, but only if I can "true bypass" them. W7x64 support an absolute must. Tired of the Digi..erm, Avid Audio, BS game. (cannot believe 10+ years of PT use is coming to an end...)
