While it's currently nowhere near as powerful as Cubase overall, PreSonus Studio One is a near perfect example of the user interface that should be on Cubase after many years. It's ridiculous what the old Steinberg devs have done there. It's what Cubase should have evolved into.
Workflow wise - 90% of the time for the things they do in common - it's not even close. A lot of the simple stuff Cubendo users have been requesting for years is in there in the 1.0 version.
The UI puts Cubase to shame in so many areas it's just silly.
It just digs the knife in a little deeper. :icon_rolleyes: Laurel resting is going to hurt them eventually...

I have to agree here..
I have been having an extended play over the last week, and it just amazed me how easy it was to get around and do what I needed to do without pausing to reach for the manual.
I am finding it a good cross between Cubendo and Reaper , and I am hoping that it will continue to develop and mature.

Yes. I think it will develop very quickly but they certainly took care of the interface ergonomics first.
Drag and drop is just off the hook insane. Control Link is light years ahead of Cubase midi mapping. The Project Page (mastering) is not only well thought out but they actually let you burn CD's and/or assemble MP3 release projects... duh. The browser is something that while not quite as powerful as Media Bay overall, is much more intuitive and would have been welcome in Cubase even if nobody had asked for it.
So many really good ideas and workflow features. It's like they played with Cubase for awhile and thought... "Ok, what did they (or we) do wrong there?"
Honestly... I don't even mix in Cubase anymore. I export stems (which is even better done in S1) from Cubase and mix in Studio One. Funny thing is that I liked the Cubendo UI a lot right up until I started using Logic and S1, now it seems a bit prehistoric, all of the various windows that didn't used to annoy me and all of the simple things it can't yet do that affect the workflow.
I should also probably mention that it directly loads Cubase *.xml track archives.

Audiocave,
one of the most intriguing features of Studio One seems to be the semi-automatic controller mapping to plugins in focus, any experience with that ?
I'm definitely watching Studio One with great interest and plan to give it a chance as soon as it allows for customized key commands.
Thanks,

I might be one of the few that waited for an app to have several key feature sets that Cubase 5 brought to the table. Without them, I find every other app lacking now, and end up floating back to C5. Studio One.. great ideas, but still very young.
When it comes to straight up audio recording and mixing... my fav place to be is PT HD, tape, RADAR, PARIS, or possibly some other medium that is similar.

I should also probably mention that it directly loads Cubase *.xml track archives.
It can also load Open TL & the XML based .capture format, both of which AATranslator can Read and write along with "track archive". Handy if you want a way to convert from the 12 formats covering about 30 DAW's available.

Now .capture & Open TL do (potentially) support markers or Cues (unlike Steinberg track archive).
Anyone know what of the following get recognised with an Open TL import into Studio one?
Track Pan, gain/Volume. Fades, X fades, Clip gain, Pan & volume envelops & markers?

Presonus Studio One is good but not enough to make me want to switch.
For one it doesn't seem you can edit multiple MIDI channels but I like the way devices are handled.

How does it scale with low latency VST's compared to N4/C5/C5.5?

This may help. At least part of your answer may be here.
