A friend turned me on the IK Multimedia's mastering plugs..... I do more orchestral composing than anything and it usually gets mixed/mastered elsewhere, but I wanted to start in with some of my own movie trailer stuff and thought I better up my tool chest right away......
I've barely messed with four of the nine plugs, but so far they are seeming like the best value in high end plugs that I've seen. To start with, I wanted mainly transparent treatments with the compression and limiting and eq's. These are very transparent and very very effective. Just $375 at www.AudioMidi.com for all nine of them, or individually at around $85 apiece. I'm just using them individually, not in the rack version, since I don't think the order can be changed in the rack.
BrickWall limiter....I'm able to jack to volume big time without screwing up the sound. EQ is working for me so far and the verb is pretty nice, but cpu intensive.
Curious what other here who know so much more than me about these things might think. I'd suggest to anyone that they download the demos. My friend has been producing high end stuff now for 30yrs, and he's loving these. I can't get the Waves MV2 demo since it is Wave shell 6 and my current stuff is shell 5. He's been loving that too, since it came out.
Much more to experiment with, but I've never gotten my stuff sounding this much louder sounding while retaining clarity and not killing the dynamics.
The trick for the clarity, I'm told, is especially in clicking on the 'over sampling' feature in some of the plugs.
Anyway, a bit long winded, but hey, I'm a little excited!
