This is something that we need to do I'd say since we can't always post in "bug base" so why not change an icon or title in "general"?

yeah, why can't we change everything always. It's not a freaking trial, is it? :D

I've noticed an icon has changed in my post but not in the main forum, it would seem this VBulletin is quite sophisticated.

I am not understanding what you mean by icons?

Hi Animus

In this post:

http://cubendo.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=131

The icon is different in the main forum, as it is in the actual post itself.

Hope you can help.

Those are icons the original posters can choose when making a thread. You can also choose them for your post at the bottom of the post type window.

Hi Animus,

Isn't that a bit silly to have different icons in and out of a thread for the same thing?

I only remember at the old forum people used to change the name of their post to reflect it's status, is that not the idea here?

Are you talking about the emoticons? THey can be selected by the poster to convey an emotion. Like for example you make a thread about Steinberg not fixing solo/mute and you attach and thumbs down logo. So then you have someone post in the thread that the solo/mute problems dont affect him and he attaches a smiley face.

But maybe we are still not understanding each other.

LOL yes but that doesn't help me indicate that the status of the post is changed since at first it was a real thumbs down but now it's a real thumbs up and I don't want anyone to get the "wrong" idea.

I hope that explains it better.

Thanks

I guess what I'm saying is if I could at least change the icons to be the same both in-and-out of the thread then all would be well and balance would be restored but how it is now is not making me very happy at all.

I can understand not changing the title but the icon would help users communicate don't you think?

oh I see. You are talking about not being able to edit the thread title/header. We'd have to give permissions for that for regular users. I think how it works now is that it's time-limited. A poster can change the thread topic for a period of time before its closed off.

Thank you for replying.

Unless I understand the aim of this place regarding thread titles, it's a bit hard to comment as at a minimum at least in the general forum specifically this functionality I feel should be a given.

I just tried to change it and I can't so we just have to live with it and choose your emoticons wisely. :)

Can an update fix it?

For now it's ok but it really is counter to "standard" forum practice, do you agree?

I am failing to see what the big deal is..

I have been running a forum for years with this same forum software, and the same limitation to members, and not one member has ever made a deal about not being able to change the thread title.

Give me an example where this will cause you an inconvenience.. ?

Well although I am always finding myself banished from officialdom, at least you could change the name of your post.

The way this is here for every single forum certainly doesn't make any sense, at least not to me.

Anyway,

Gr

P.S. Why isn't your name now "Member"? I gave an exmple already so yeh all the best.

I gave an example already so yeh all the best.

So you did, Sorry, I missed it in the mix.

So that the OP can change the status of the topic if its bug based, etc..,hmmmm, that is a good point.. ;-)

I'll have a dig around at my own forums control/admin area and see if I can find the option for registered users, and pass it on to Stacy.

P.S. Why isn't your name now "Member"?

Custom titles are fixed , regardless of post count.. :-)

Thanks TAFKAT.

I didn't mean to come across as being rude so my apologies if I did it's just that it's one thing to post but if there is no follow up what's the point and I know the bugbase is only for Admins, and that's fine and things can be moved there but if the general user can't even modify the title of their "own" post even in General Discussion, then what's the point?

I don't want to be accusatory on the point of a technical limitation in the software, as I don't believe anyone has deliberately set it up to be this way but it does seem a bit authoritarian for my liking and I thought this place was here to challenge established social norms at least insofar as the DAW is concerned.

Hey M,

No need to apologise , all good.. :-)

I don't think the admins here set the limitation to be purposely authoritarian, it seems to be a default setting that is set to 5 minutes. I just checked on my forum, and have found the setting which I have passed on to Stacy here to see what he can do to disable it or at least set it to something like 12 months, which should cover the bases if its not possible to disable it totally.

I can't test it on my forum as I have extended privileges there, so we just need to sit tight until the mods here get a chance to try the setting change I forwarded..

Hang in there, I am sure the guys will find a suitable solution.. :-)

Peace

Hey,

Open and respectful discussion I'm all for so thank you for setting me straight on how it works insofar as the time limit is concerned.

If I may suggest that at least for the General Discussion Forum and ThinkTank, that a person should at least be able to change the title of their post(s) and elsewhere besides Moderator Only forums; to be able to change the graphic so as to convey an element of change in the discussion.

I don't know if my last feature request is at all possible but I think it would be very cool and unique in the forum world.

Thanks again

Okay, i have changed the time limit to 500,000 minutes. lol That works out to about a year. THe emoticon issue I can do nothing about as admins and mods can't even change that once set for the thread afaik.
