So, has anyone been following the rumors that Cubase 5 will be at the Namm show next month? I've seen a couple of posts at gearslutz, one on KVR, and one of the trade magz I was browsing mentioned it.

I pretty much figured Steinberg had been up to something and which explains why solo/mute has gone unfixed.
So I guess that means, no solo.mute function fixed in C5, along with Truncated video.
Wonder if anyone will call them on it at NAMM.

What I am wondering if it is already fixed [solo/mute] in SEQ5. I think it is. Now they have the dillema rather or not to go back and fix it in SEQ4, which I still think is unlikely.

I doubt they will do any updates to C4. C5 is the beta for the N4 update planned for end of Q2. It will introduce 10 new features, 5 will be only half-way implemented and not work right. 3 of them will create new bugs, and 2 of them will break existing functionality. Only half of the existing bugs will be fixed - and those will be fixed to the developer's way of working and not the customer's way of working. Other than that, it will have a "better" GUI, pre-mixed songs in the Media Bay, and instant star-making power which will bring in 1000s of new customers.

now now, be careful, some may be considering banning you for all that negative heresay! Its hurting the development teams feelings to hear you speak like that, now they have resolved that they especially wont fix any bug that affects you, just to make you pay!.....oh hang on, sorry, wrong forum, my bad, my bad....as you were chaps!!!

I'll be at Namm 09 so I will definitely go by the SB booth and check out C5 and whether SOLO/MUTE is fixed.

you mean this forum allows rumours, speculations and we may actually learn something about features to come?....what a concept! :-)
Freedom!!!! what was that prince's album? Emancipation Day.

Okay, get back to the subject or I'll close, lock and send this thread to the trash compactor..... lol
"No speculation for you. Go to back of line!" ;-)
johnnyjellybean (or anyone else) - if you happen to take a digital DV/HDV camcorder with you to NAMM, maybe we could post some YouTube videos/links of NAMM as our own report series. I usually check out the other reporting sites, but they tend to take a long time to get to products like Cubendo. It would also be cool to have vids of periphery products that Cubendo users would use as well (control surfaces, midi controllers, plugins, etc).

Excellent idea. As well, someone should ask what is fixed and what isn't fixed and see what the response is.

Hi TAFKAT!
Do you really think that Steinberg will demo on AMDs with Core2 Hyperthreading enabled? :D

As a customer I called them on the DX drop at AES. They didn't care. Spoke with SB and Yammy reps.

I don't think they'd let you into the show with a camcorder, unless you were a registered member of the press, local TV station, etc. Years back, I did bring a camcorder to the show. But I think they've tightened up on that since.

I certainly hope this is just a hoax, otherwise it's gonna be a big disappointment.

Typical level of commentary I have come to expect at KVR..
..Everytime I bother to navigate over there , within minutes I am always asking myself why I bothered... LOL

Isnt it ALWAYS a disappointment when an update arrives???
The anticipation that something new and better is coming. Your hopin that they actually listened to users and referenced the bugbase.
Then the harsh reality hits that Steinberg has left you all the bugs in the last version unfixed and added new ones on top of it. Dont be upset though cause youll have some free loops that wont show up in the mediabay search:eek:
:)Hi guys!
This is a new announcement from Steinberg:

January 1, 2009
Hitting 25th Anniversary Milestone.
......Defining standards for the last 25 years, Steinberg is now anticipating a year of exciting new products that not only comprise advanced tools for producing, composing, recording, editing and mixing, but bring you the innovative and sophisticated solutions you truly deserve to take your creativity to its limits. Keeping this in mind, Steinberg wants to thank you for past support and looks forward to future contributions from your side.
New products for producing, composing, recording, editing and mixing , but no new product for post?
Cheers

Doesn't "post" include "recording" (VO, Foley, ADR etc), "editing" (Dialog, SFX etc) and "mixing"? And isn't it called "Post Production"?
I think the more important highlight of the statement is:
"Defining standards for the last 25 years, Steinberg is now anticipating a year of exciting new products that not only comprise advanced tools for producing, composing, recording, editing and mixing, but bring you the innovative and sophisticated solutions you truly deserve to take your creativity to its limits"
i.e: More stuff with more features while we still haven't seen a significant improvement in how they respond to the flaws that occur in their products.

who really needs new products? another Sequel?
IMO they need to make their existing ones work as advertised.

Yes and yes. ;) But our mutual friends in Northern Germany do not mention the word postproduction.
I speak Hamburgish almost like a native and I know that:
Music production means Cubase.
Audio and Postproduction means Nuendo.
Audio Editing means Wavelab.
I think Steinberg will release Cubase 5 and Wavelab 7 in 2009, but Nuendo 5 will not be released in 2009.

I think Sequel does OK. I have clients that use it. One actually called me about it and wanted to pick my brain. I fed his ear full of SB's history and ended it with " It really comes down to if it works for you. If so, get it. Just know, there have been issues with upward compatibility and it may put you in a pickle"
Sequel created another avenue of upgraders. Another something similar would be a waste. What other market do they need to fill, not including the current user base that wants existing taken care of.

As far as I'm concerned, there aren't that many new features I wish for. I'd mostly like to see all the BS bugs ironed out, and then a new professional controller with multiple faders. Could be combined with a mixer as a hybrid solution, but either way they really should put out something that integrates well with the software and sits somewhere in the 1k-10k range (i.e where the Euphonix Artist starts and up to the ID products).
Just my .02....
Is it just me or does anyone else think it is really important to be able to do more advanced audio editing like audio warping on grouped events directly in the project window, not just in the sample editor, in the sample editor view you have no reference other than the grid.
So a sophisticated grouping system for tracks AND objects separated or linked,
Better multi-channel / multitrack editing from the PROJECT window....sample editor is good for some stuff, and pretty lame for a lot of other stuff....I nearly always have multiple tracks for one source, DI/MIC, Drums etc....editing these is a pain in Nuendo as it stands now....let alone using audio warp in any meaningful way on multitrack groups....
Playlists needed too....see PT8 for details :)
Sam
These are the big ones for me....add import session data to that and I would be fairly happy as long as solo/mute, video and mediabay get their shiteyness sorted out!

While I agree that I'd much rather see the existing bugs taken care of, I really think that in terms of both assisted multitrack drum editing and phase-coherent multitrack ElasticAudio-type of manipulations PT is way ahead of Cubendo. Elastic Audio in Pro Tools works so well and changes the sound so little that I actually started using it on real-life productions. Cubase really needs a BeatDetective and ElasticAudio sometime soon.
