I was wondering what anyone thought about having drag & drop for instruments in the rack?

Over at officialdom, I remember one of the mods' there I think Chris B. said one day there would be no need for the VST rack and that it would be replaced by multi-instrument tracks.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit as of late and realize there are some potential problems, namely VST Tracks appearing last in the mixer instead of the order in which they exist in the project page, however I guess this probably isn't the real problem actually because if you look at the mixer you will see some icons:

Hide audio, hide groups etc, but what you don't see is hid VST outputs which leads me to believe there is currently no method implemented that would allow the aforementioned functionality.

If anyone has anything additional thoughts, please don't hesitate to include them in this thread.

You can define your own custom channel sequence by dragging around tracks in the track list, that includes group tracks, FX tracks and VST outputs, they are only grouped in folders by default but nothing's gonna stop you from dragging them elsewhere, putting all drum related tracks together for example.
The mixer sequence will follow.
Not sure if that's what you want to achieve ...
That said, personally I'm using separate workspaces for the 3 mixers, one set for VSTi only, one for audio and one for groups, quick and intuitive. Recall via the top number keys triggering macros so they always show inserts, to work around the "new channels come up with EQ view :icon_rolleyes:" bug.

haha! I remember this.

Having to clear cubase plain vanilla EQ's not to mention half the channel types such as rewire and midi.

Shame you can't stop viewing VST Outputs in the mixer.

Disclaimer; I'm using Nuendo 4.3, however hiding VSTi Outputs in the mixer has been an included feature for ages. Seeing as I have around 90, it would be a pain if it wasn't...!
