Pros and cons, in general? Cubase 5 specifically?
Skip the rest if you like...
As a 1st gen Mac Pro user, via Bootcamp I am unable to have more than 2G physical RAM "seen" by Windows 32-bit versions. So, I have not been able to really give a (newer) Windows OS a real test run (used Windows for years, last used? XPsp2). Instead of purchasing a 64-bit, I opted to load up W7 x64.
Now the fun part.. I only have my 002 (have not been able to get ANY Digi stuff going, despite "pure" Windows machines doing W7x64 have). No real audio I/O to really give it a nice run through with Cubase 5. I am looking into.. affordable, temporary options, and possible "may I borrow for a few weeks?" ideas.
Why am I asking? Trying to decide (STILL!) whether to sell my 1st gen Mac Pro and build a nice i7, or stick with what i have and possibly deal with Bootcamp. Since Cubase 5 is my primary, and PT takes a back seat now (ok, trunk ;) ), weighing the two options has been... less than fun. Spent too long procrastinating already...
