I have enabled the Reputation system on this vbulletin forum. Members can now rank other members. At the top right of each post there is a Scales icon. Click on that and you can Approve or Disapprove of a post's mannerism, and leave a comment. Everyone starts out with 10 points. The purpose of this is for a little self-moderation incentive and accountability on the forums, and shouldn't be used just because you don't agree with each other. We will see how it works out. Please try and not abuse the system with frivolous ratings.

thanks

I really don't like that idea, and will quit posting if that is left in place.

Agreed, this shouldnt be a popularity contest here. I thought you guys wanted to get away from the big brother mentality here? Hope im not wrong

In fact, if you do decide to leave the User Reputation System in place, I request that you delete me as a user, and remove all traces that I've ever been here. I don't want to participate in any such thing.

Actually, I've already had a change of heart about this after discussing it with others and will disable it again. I had seen they were using it over at gearslutz and thought it might be good but then realized I don't think anyone really uses it or pays attention to it so what's the point. And softy and shanabit is right, might become too much a popularity contest. Carry on, nothing to see here... :)

And Softy and shanabit, you each get 5 demerits for insubordination, we are watching you! :)

How long are people "junior" for Animus?

Probably to 100 posts.

Not sure. That was left at default. Probably 100 like guru said. I can check.

Yup. 100 to be "Member". 1000 to be "Senior Member".

Hey Stacy,

Maybe we can come up with some better titles than Junior , Senior , etc.

Re the rating system, I am glad you had a change of heart, I think this forum already has a high level of self moderation without the need for any added vehicle except what is already in place.., and I could easily see it being abused as well..

:( I liked the idea... I just planned to rank you down for introducing it. :D

I didn't really have any issue with it since I didn't think it mattered what people thought, only Mods. but I suppose it was another blinking light so as to speak.

What I would like to know is about the IM things, they can tell when a person is online, but why not send them a message and if so will it say who it's coming from?

Well, Guru should be #1. Just kind of makes sense. :p

Well since I was never banned at the other forum, maybe I can parlay this into some degree of infamy here.

Oh wait a minute... Remember the days before the Nuendo forum was changed to only allow people who registered their legitimate Nuendo licenses to be admitted? Back in those days I was "Softy" on that forum. When I eventually did register my numbers and get admitted to the forum (a long while later), I went to register and was told that "Softy" was already taken (by my earlier incarnation of course). That was why I became Softy.123 on the Nuendo forum. So HEY! I want that junior member thing removed RIGHT NOW! You can put something like SOBANC after my name (Sort Of Banned At Nuendo.Com).

It's working here. I just checked your profile and you didn't fill out your IM username which it probably needs to know what client to open etc.

Hi Animus, this is what I get if I click on the link to add you:

aim:addbuddy?screenname=apophe

I don't really know what is meant to execute that code. Does it mean I need AIM installed with the default browser on the system?

I'm using Opera Portable so I'm supposing there isn't currently a way to plumb back to that particular IM program or any other for that matter.

Maybe we could have an FAQ on these kinds of issues, any takers?

Thanks again

Where are you clicking exactly? I am trying to understand what you mean. Are you clicking on my AIM icon thats on the top right of each post? Do you have a AIM account? If you do you need to fill in your username in your profile.

Ok, this is what I get when I try to click on Send apophe a message (aim:goim?screenname=apophe&message=Hi.+Are+you+there?)

aim:goim?screenname=apophe&message=Hi.+Are+you+there? and nothing happens.

But when I click on http://cubendo.com/images/misc/im_aim.gif Send Message Via AIM to Animus (http://cubendo.com/member.php?u=1) (apophe) I get this:

http://cubendo.com/member.php?u=1

I know it says I should have AIM installed (not yet) but still it should not come up with the vistor page nor a 404 type message.

Thank you and don't worry about it too much it could be fixed on the next update.

Regards

P.S. What I think it should come up with instead of the vistor page is a form where it sends you an IM directly if I am a member (not guest).

If you don't have a chat client installed I imagine you would get those error messages. I don't think its a bug in vbulletin in that case.

Actually, it looks like Gearslutz did away with the reputation system over there too so I guess it's no a good idea in practice.

Hello,

I guess what I'm saying is it would appear to be a temporary measure on the part of VBulliten that any link should go to the visitor page which purports to be being sent to the person via IM.

If properly implemented it could be a great idea to "call" people to the forum.

Oh and about the original point of this post, I thought the User Reputation System was just a little something to indicate post count or how active a participant is, not anything to do with ratings of any kind.

Here's hoping for the future.

My regards

Could I please be custom made, "Fantastic Member" or "Magnificent Member" or something like that? Junior Member is so dull.
