Hey All,

I am addressing this specifically to those of us who have Midex 8 Units , that will be orphaned shortly as the move to 64 bit gains momentum. Initially I was going to direct this to the PC guys, but having just checked the latest OSX driver stopped dead at 10.3 as a BETA as well, lets open it up to both Mac and PC users.

I know this was beaten to death a few years back , and I really couldn't be bothered reading thru the old threads at the other spaces , but did Steinberg ever give a tangible reason why they could not develop 64 bit drivers for these units.

I do know that part of the issue was that the LTB on Windows required a Direct X component of the application to be in place, which Steinberg killed off in seq4 - focus, leave that for another thread - , but that shouldn't stop the units from operating as a conventional MIDI device.

8 In / 8 Out MIDI devices are pretty thin on the ground now and are less of a priority with the virtual instruments taking front and centre, but surely someone should be able to knock together a working x64 driver for this unit.

I have heard rumours of the code being tied up because of some bullshite political fallout between Steini and the 3rd part responsible, but seeing its been a good 5 years plus, and there must be more than a few end users in exactly the same position that would rather not park the units.

I am wondering if its worth a collective campaign to find who the original developers were , and contacting them directly about developing an x64 driver , or if that is not possible, a 3rd party willing to reverse engineer and develop a driver for the unit.

I am more than willing to pay for a working driver, as I suspect most would if it meant not binning the units..

Thoughts.. ?

Good question. All I heard is that the third party making them stopped making them.

Do you know who the 3rd party is/was ?

Hi,

My first post here (but I've been reading the forum since day 1).

Fredo said that support for midex is stopped "Because some components inside the Midex are discontinued. There are no alternatives for these components without changing the basic hardware design of the unit, and the old firmware can't be upgraded/modified to keep the units compatible with newer systems."

It is extremely unlikely that components are no longer available. That is a diagonalese smoke screen for "we don't want to waste our resources to fix this".

The developer might have been Wizoo, who were also responsible for Hypersonic. Now they are a part of the Digi team, so chances that they will do this are slim to none.

"Houston, we have a problem..."

Hey Bostjan,

I'm with D, they can place that answer where it belongs.

I am willing to bet that cracking it open will reveal simple vanilla components . IMO opinion the uniqueness of Midex isn't the hardware, its the software component and despite no longer being made, there can be no physical reason why the drivers cannot be updated to x64.

If we can find out who the original ODM manufacturer was , we may have a chance of getting a straight answer.

I thought I remember reading somewhere it was Waldorf.

Who ever it was, it would be interesting to know what the real reason is, and why we couldn't employ a 3rd party to develop a driver.

There's a thread in the Hardware forum at cubase.net that has a lot of info as to developer ect.. A search should bring it up.

Hi,

I was also sceptical when I read that about unavailable components. Actually I found out on several occasions that n.com representatives are talking bullshit about something to be impossible to correct etc...

I own midex3 and I would also like to be able to use it in 64bit system. It's a nice piece of hardware...

Count me in. I'm a midex 8 owner, too. I'd really hate to kick that good old friend in the bin. I'd sure be willing to even pay an appropriate amount for such drivers.

I have a very dusty MIDex8 here too.

I can't remember which company made the Midex's, it was mentioned in a thread on N.com once, and it was quite a well known company, and the story was that they and Steinberg parted company.I would love to keep using my Midex's, currently the Midex 8 is in standalone being used as an 8 way MIDI through box.

I think it was Waldorf, not 100% tho....
