I love stepped attenuators, if I had my way I would be pulling all of the volume pots out of my gear and putting them in. Goldpoint have some really nice stuff:

Not cheap, very true. Nice to have an exact left to right balance though, most stereo pots are pretty poor at this, and to be able to set levels the same every time.

Hey Steve,
Couldn't agree more..
I was lucky enough to be able to be around some of that beautiful Millennia outboard gear for a few years working with the distro, and the optional stepped pots were just so much better , and precise when setting levels as you mentioned.
+1
:D
This is why I love that my EMES monitors have ALL dipswitch controls on them for level, and EQ balancing etc etc....much more comfortable knowing its exactly the same (well beyond any level I can hear anyways)
I am a dipswitch fan for most controls....although sometimes you want a spot in between two points....as you need a LOT of .5 db steps to get an EQ that can cut/boost 15db :D
The Neve 1064 channel strips I use regularly use 5db steps!!!!
