Just a quick heads up,
Prior to Cubase 5, there was a Cubase 4 crossgrade from Nuendo for a reasonable price, so for those that were sick of the leapfrogging/filters or had simply wanted to crossgrade an earlier Nuendo copy to Cubase 4 for a reasonable cost for what ever reason, that option was available.
That has now been discontinued, which in light of the current leapfrogging fiasco we are experiencing seems a little calculated, in that anyone now wanting to crossgrade a Nuendo license to C5 to get the advanced features, have no option but to buy a full C5 license..
Well this is the situation here in Oz, can anyone else chip in on what the status in their local market..
Brian, you there Mate ?

Just looked on Steiny USA and there's no N4-C5 path listed, Vin.

Thanks Nate,
Looks like it could be a global decision then, also the competitive crossgrade from other DAW's seems to have also been discontinued as well..
Looking forward to hearing what Brian has to say in regards to the reasoning why.
BTW: To add insult to injury, we are getting murdered on the upgrade and RRP pricing here.., especially since our $ has recovered to .80 US.
SX3/C4 to C5 - $419.00 ( US $199.00 - current conversion today is $250 AU )
C5 Full : - $949.00 ( US $499.00 - current conversion today is $627 AU )
Anyone else see a huge problem here.. , there is no wonder why so much local business is lost to US vendors.. :-(

I'm waiting to see if they cut the price after sales decline to a certain point. I got C4 for 1/2 price upgrading from LE1 with the competitive upgrade. I'm wondering if the C4 pricing fiasco was due to all of the uproar at release time. Only time will tell.

Thinking about this, it could be due to the free update coming so close to the new release. They are counting on all of the paid Nuendo upgrades. If they gave the update and let the migration happen the grasslands could look very bleak.

Well, I do not have anything to offer for we have yet to release Nuendo 5.
As far as Cubase 4 to Nuendo 4 CG, we removed it once Cubase 5 replaced Cubase 4. You are correct there isn't any C5 to N4 UG for they do not relate at this time.
As far as the Cubase 4 Competitive UG from LE, that was a corporate decision we all made back during Cubase 4.
Once more info is available to share, I will let you know. Cool?
Have a great week.

Hey Brian,
In relation to the Nuendo crossgrade to Cubase 4, it never stipulated it needed to be Nuendo 4, it was simply listed as Nuendo, well locally it was.
Why would anyone want to crossgrade from Nuendo 4 to Cubase 4 , my understanding was that it was for the guys with earlier builds of Nuendo who didn't want to stay on the Nuendo treadmill and wanted to move to C4. From memory it was first introduced when C4 leapfrogged N4 release by about 12 months, much the same of what is happening now with C5 / N4.
So any chance of me buying full packages and upgrades for my clients directly from you guys in the U.S.., our local boys haven't quite figured out what a global pricing policy is...

You're right, Vin. The last big crossgrade hyped at the Nuendo forum was for N3 users to get C4... September 2006.
It's strange that an N4 (even N3 for that matter) to C5 offer isn't available, since the 2006 offer was valid for users of Nuendo 1, 2 or 3.

I was told I could not upgrade my old Nuendo 1 license to a newer version of Cubase. (Instead I was encouraged to buy the Academic license of C5! Or pay $1000 for an upgrade--which was $100 more than a crossgrade from a competing product!!!)
So I sold Nuendo v1 on ebay-where it fetched the handsome sum of $85.00 hahaha
I still have 2 Nuendo licenses, and love the cubendo DAWs, but Steinberg really pisses me off quite often with their nonsensical business practices, IMO. I have been waiting (and hoping) for some sense to take hold for the past 6 years now... still waiting...

Hey Terry,
Thats the exact crossgrade that was available here for under $400.00 AU up until the release of C5 , which they have now conveniently pulled , with the only option now to buy C5 outright, or of course update the licenses to N4, which would cost more than buying C5 outright.. :icon_rolleyes:
Damn it , I should have crossgraded that spare N1 licence last year, its worthless now , and the N2 to N4 is not worth the jump either for me with N5 coming, which I will no doubt have to fork over a hefty upgrade for again..., so in essence I have numerous $3000.00 licences that are worthless and I will bin.
Steinberg should take a leaf out of Digi's book , one update price regardless of what version being updated from, but that would make way too much sense.. !!

Well, this is where we still have some hope, if we make people aware of it... Steinberg offers the SX3 & C4 upgrade to C5 for the same $199.
We need to stress the importance that at least N3 & N4 should be able to upgrade to N5 for the same price, whatever that may be.
If Steinberg really wanted to add value to legacy Nuendo versions, as well as get a whole new userbase involved who would otherwise not use Nuendo (or pull it back off the shelf it's been sitting on since versions 1,2 or 3), they should open the gates to ALL Nuendo versions to upgrade to N5 for the same price.
Also, they should start the grace period and announce that anyone who upgrades/buys N4 today will receive N5 for free.
That's how you generate a buzz, revitalize the userbase, and re-establish value/incentive for future upgrades.

Hey guys, you'll have to pardon my not diving into this discussion to much. I am visiting family all this week in Philly.
Still, there isn't too much I can offer for we do not have any final info yet. Once I have more, we can discuss. Cool?
