Id like to know as Im looking to build soon. Scott at ADK wont say which MB's are good and which arent publicly so it leaves guys like myself flying in the dark

Specifically:

1. Which MB?
2. What CPU
3. What RAM
4. What OS?
5. What Video Card?
6. What HD's

TAFKAT was getting ready to post up some in that arena. Stay tuned.

Wow,

That didn't take long for a component list request to pop up.. LOL

@ Shanabit,

You will find that most of the professional DAW builders will not post detailed system spec's, I am also one of the builders that will not publicly share those details.

Reasons will vary from builder to builder, I have my own which I will not go onto too much detail except to say that I put enormous resources into development and testing before I offer any of my DAW's to my clients. There is more to developing a a DAW than a sum of its parts, something that is lost on many on the open forums who relentlessly attack the DAW builders as selling snake oil, etc.

That is incredibly insulting , not only to me, but to all of my professional clients who have come to me for DAW solutions over the years , who understand that the DAW solutions that I provide are more than the said sum of parts.

I pulled back from sharing technical details many years ago because of that behaviour which is still going strong across numerous forums, GS, KVR being recent examples.

Thats not stopping end users who have built there on and sharing experiences, but please do not be offended if I personally ignore all components list requests.

Thats not to say I won't help with technical questions, issues , etc, which I have always done in the past, more so recently just at DAWbench , and I will shortly post some comparable performance charts of the i7 vs the last 2 generations of Intel chips that will clearly outline just how powerful these chips are, but doesn't highlight how much of a minefield configuring the i7 development system was, just how flakey the early revision BIOS's were and still are , how much variable there was between BIOS's, etc, how picky they can be in regards to memory, etc, etc, etc.

In a few months it will be a lot clearer, but right now its on the bleeding edge..

RE O.S, etc, thats a little different, I have no issue discussing O.S recomendations , but I would need to know more specifics about your applications/ plugins/VSTi's, working environment, memory requirements, etc..

Peace

Time to buy a MacPro apparently.

Maybe I should ask what NON-DAW BUILDERS are using that works with Corei7
I DIDNT ask for a PROFESSIONAL DAW BUILDER to answer my question BTW, I simply asked what works. Why post if your not going to answer? Just sayin, shouldnt WASTE YOUR TIME. You DONT make any money telling me you would like to help but cant for fear of loss of profits.

Whats insulting is that DAW builders think if they keep that information locked up that unlearned folks will flock to them wanting to buy their product. Nothing could be more wrong IMO.

The whole benefit of building your own traditionally is that you could save a lot of money. If the DAW makers add their profit onto the cost, why shouldnt I just get a MacPro which would be the same cost at that point. That choice is EASY, go with OSX or with WINDOWS XP as VISTA apparently still sucks.

How much does your super duper DAW cost BTW? I want TOP shelf for track number, loads of VSTi's etc .

Vin, do you have a website from which to move your wares?

Wow,

What a great start to preceding.. LOL

I think your cap key maybe stuck, and if it isn't, shouting isn't going to make your points any more viable.

You are right Mate, who was I to actually try and explain why the DAW builders may hold their cards a little closer to their chests.

I did say that is not stopping other end users contributing on this thread, my only motivation to respond was to try and explain why DAW builders are not as open in sharing details for various reasons.

If you cannot understand that, and actually find that insulting , then thats your perogative..

Lets call this a wash.. , I'll step out from here on in , and wish you well with your projects.. :-)

Peace

VIN, my cap key does stick sometimes LOL, seriously though if you have a website, Id def like to look at your selection. I know you do the Dawbench numbers so I KNOW you know what your talking about here.

Please take everything I say tongue in cheek here. I dont think you guys are selling snake oil. i think what the user is paying for is your knowledge and testing to find components that work together. Thats my point here, if the cost is going to be about the same in the end then whats the real diff other than OS your running?

I dont have a problem buying a system from a dawbuilder, it does piss me off when the dawmakers make a point to post in threads just to say they cant help :p

Hey S,

Cool, point taken Mate LOL :-)

I think we are a little trigger happy sometimes because of some of the unwarranted attacks, there are some guys at Gearslutz who really make a point of attacking us.. :-(

Most of my work goes into the development , and fine tuning and also the delivery of a working Turnkey solution for all of my clients, so I am a little different to some other builders.

The systems are not all that different to what others can build on their own, no denying that, but thats not where my strength lies. Its all a little more to do with the whole solution as a package, the build quality, after sales servicing, tech support, etc . I have many clients who were very experienced builders coming to me simply because they couldn't be bothered researching, building, testing the systems themselves.

I do have a few things up my sleeve that make the systems a little more tolerant to low latency , high loadings.. :-)

Anyhow, this is starting to sound like I'm phishing , and that is not my intention. You can check out my website link in my public profile. I found that for some reason my profile box is scewed off to the bottom of the screen when clicked for some reason, very strange..

Take note , I haven't updated the webpage / webstore with the current i7 system as yet, will do that in the next week or so. Also I am in Melbourne Australia , so maybe not the closest option.. LOL

Peace Mate, and I do apologise for setting the wrong tone..me bad.. :-)

Maybe you could share some info via PM if you both swear confidentiallity , after all, you can't expect a guy in Ohio to be buying a DAW from a guy in Australia??? Just the shipping costs alone negate any advantages. Also, if it's just a question of a component list, it won't be long before the info for the best suited components will be readily available elsewhere on the net.

Where have I offered to sell anything here ?

All I have offered on this thread is an opinion on why DAW builders play their cards closer to their chests.

Re the component list being freely available soon, I guess they will be.. :-)
